Least religious states -- and Colorado's place on the list

Big images and more below.
When it comes to the faith, a couple of Colorado cities have represented extremes in recent surveys, with Colorado Springs listed as one of the most saintly and Boulder called one of the least religious. But what about the state as a whole? A new Gallup poll ranks all fifty states plus the District of Columbia in terms of religion -- and Colorado winds up following Boulder's lead more than Colorado Springs'. How lacking in religion is it? Count down the complete roster from most to least religious below, accompanied by graphics and stats from Gallup.

aleah, read the bible. that's where i come with these ideas. God calls the atheists fools (Psalms 14: 1), and check out Jesus's arguments against the religious people. you see? because you ignore the Word of the one true God is that you think my point of view is extremist, or that God is this dude on the clouds (lol) telling you how to live your lives. But go ahead, keep and ignoring Him or acknowledge Him..or what? do you think God is gonna run with all ashamed just because you fail to believe in Him? or just because you decide that He doesn't exist He's gonna do your will? think again...

You dont need a God to believe in something higher. Atheism is the disbelief in God, but that doesnt mean they dont acknowledge a higher power. They just dont believe its some guy sitting in a cloud telling us how to live our lives. And how do you know what this so called God thinks of religious people? It's just the extremists that interpret thier holy book as literal who mess it all up...not religious people in general. Your comment is ignorant.

BTW voting in Corey Gardner explains everything. A politician that argues beginning of life....And were not a religious state?

Joel Storin

If that were true they would not have voted for Corey Gardner!!!!

These religious groups are the ones who keep the GOP alive and thriving. They are racist and militant. Almost a flip-side to the militant islamists

Don't forget the porn industry is predominantly Christian.

I'm from Colorado originally but live Montana now. Not surprised about Co. Rank. Springs does make it a lower number. Denver seemed to me to be melting pot of religions. You know Jewish community on west colfax Muslim community in the S.E. catholic on the north side and atheists on capital hill. Haha atheism isn't a religion

I thank god every day that I don't live in Colorado Springs.

Interesting that Colorado is one of the least religious states and Georgia is one of the most religious states...

I lived my life without Jesus for a long time, ever since I've let Jesus my life has gotten alot better. People have to open their minds and hearts to understand.

I thought Colorado Springs had the highest percentage of mega-churches in the country...

Ethnicity is a physical feature. It dictates nothing about how you think. Religion is a philosphy that is a choice. The comparasion is piss poor. Also, I find it fascinating that when it's convenient, Christians are this powerful, 2 billion people strong group, but when it's not, oh it's just individuals. Bull

Good contribution. Really moves the conversation forward.

Yes, logic tends to embarrass the delusional.

It matters because Christians are constantly trying to legislate peoples' personal lives.

Then why aren't you talking to the Christians who give off the ultra judgmental impression?

Colorado Springs is out of control religious. Do you realize how many militant right wing religious groups are in Colorado? a lot. They stockpile weapons and preach gospel. They claim we are at war right now with satin and that they are soldiers in this christian crusade. BOOM

Fun fact: there's more to Colorado than Denver and the mountains. Love, Someone from La Junta Ps: they're religious as fuck

Agreed. I don't think God likes religious people at all because they mess up what he's about.

*rolls eyes* why do people try to refute the Bible with the Bible? Because I'm sure you said that in sarcasm. Isn't that just ridiculous?! LoL

If you don't put our faith into something higher then yourself then you're putting into worldly things such as yourself which equals ignorance

No...with all the bible thumpers in the Springs, I'm sure they tilt the average.

When you're quoting ONE poll on an OBVIOUSLY biased site in general it's really not so much a fact as it is an agenda. Doesn't account for conversion at all. MENTIONS but doesn't account for those that lie in prison for the special treatment they receive for their "religious beliefs".

Christina Faith Hughes
Christina Faith Hughes

But YOU are trying to debate the sovereignty of God. smh LoL have fun with that!

Christina Faith Hughes

I haven't debated. I made a statement. Did I try to debate the validity of Christianity or ANY religion for that matter? Nope. Sure didn't.

The way you people are assuming all who subscribe to a religion are extremists is bigotry at its finest. Do you all lump blacks, whites, Mexicans etc in certain categories for the actions of individuals within these categories? Your blindness to all the good churches have done for the world is staggering. Not only is this ignorant but it's also an uneducated perspective. INDIVIDUALS are responsible for their actions not the organizations the individuals subscribe to. And I'm sure responses will include what about the crusades, the never ending fights over the holy lands etc. And I say what about the holocaust? Are all Germans murderers? What about Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Are all Americans murderers? You could call me anything under the sun for the different organizations I subscribe to but almost all would be false and most importantly ASSumptive.

It would be nice if we were even less religious. But, at least we're in the last half of religious states. I know a lot of religious and non religious people. But most of the religious ones are old and have little education.

Why does this matter? Who cares what someone does or doesn't believe. As long as you're a good person that's all that really counts isn't it? We should be a little more tolerant and accepting of each other considering the age we live in.
