Denver blog posts are always plugged in.

At our Backbeat blog, Brad Lopez takes on reports that the Red Hot Chili Peppers' instruments weren't plugged in during their Super Bowl halftime performance -- and he's not exactly shocked.

Big Media's Jason Salzman on an omission from a Tom Tancredo interview -- his reported belief that the Hispanic vote is mostly a lost cause for him.

Denver Frank has two words for this clip: "Terribly hilarious!"

Did they air-play the song they mimicked from Tom Petty? That'd be the icing....

Last dance with hairy fame, one more time to kill the pain.

True, Mo! It is a symptom of a far larger music biz problem!

Do you want to play at the Super Bowl? Whether you like it or not, you have to play by their rules. So, again I ask, do you want to play at the Super Bowl? Yes? We'll then, it will be a mimed performance, similar to practically EVERY Super Bowl performance, um, probably EVER. If you don't want to play it, fine. Miming has been going on ever since the TV was invented. Get over it. It's not like they mimed because they can't play their instruments.

I think so, the RHCP's fans take them seriously, so it was a disservice not to do a legit performance of their songs.

Every Super Bowl It Is Something new! Super Bowls in the 80s & 90s were never like this people were for real. I am sick and tired of all the lies and manipulation the elite are imposing upon us. Why the fuck couldn't they play the song Live ? I don't care if it was there original music I don't spend $50 on a ticket to see a band lip sink when I go to there concerts I want what I paid for a Live performance. Red Hot Chilli Peppers completely let me down I will never buy another CD of theres again. YES THEY DO NEED TO APOLOGIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes! The crowd expected live and they couldn't handle it. Its a lack of maturity and responsibility.

BTW-I agree with those who say the RHCP part of this story has dragged on too long. The real story here, and one that responsible music journalists could do is a complete expose of the entertainment biz and how rampant lip-synch mimed faking is across all major events, and how often so many mainstream artists do nothing more than mime and lip-synch in their concerts. I give props to KID ROCK for calling out ALL of the lip-synch fakers at the 2013 Billboard Awards show.

Chris Woodward

No, RHCP don't need to give an apology. I wish they would have played their axes with their shoes though. That would have been the ultimate in-your-face to the NFL producers who made them fake it.

It actually is not a dead horse---it is rampant in the mainstream music biz way beyond the Superbowl. The Grammys. The American Music Awards. The Billboard Awards. Olympic Opening Ceremonies. CMA's. Almost every major concert given a whole roster of mainstream musicians who get paid millions even though they are faking it. That is a HUGE problem. The list of artist who are nothing more than lip-synch fakers with mime bands have and are corrupting the craft of LIVE musical performance and selling a fake product to fans.

Get over it, least they weren't lip syncing come on.

Jamie Ontiveros

No! How do people even expect them to play? It's not like the have all day for sound check and crap like that, they have a few minutes to get out there and perform. What if something went wrong with the sound? Then no half time show. I totally support them not playing.

He had no say in that decision!!!!! Answer is freakin' NO!

Hell no cause any fan of theres know that they can fuckin jam.. No need to get an apology for wanting to represent @ the Super bowl & from what I understand they didn't have a choice to do it right.. Superbowl reps said there wasn't enough time to hookup all the equipment & stay on schedule... So theres that

I don't think they should apologize, I'm glad they left their instruments unplugged to make it obvious they weren't playing.  However I do think it's terrible that the Super Bowl doesn't allow musicians to play because it would "complicate their halftime show"  when in reality the bands ARE the halftime show.  Really I wish that Flea would have played with his shoe like he did on pre-recordings in the 80's.  That would have been a statement.

Seriously, find something worthwhile to talk about.

Kristi Adducci

No - performers don't have the time to set up for a full concert performance. It's all entertainment for a halftime show. It people bought tickets to see the RHCP and it was recorded - it would be different

Mo Love
Mo Love

Why? Because they wanted to take the opportunity to be in one of the greatest halftime shows ever? They didn't want to miss a possible once in a lifetime chance? The NFL should, for making their performers use canned music and they should cut it out. This isn't the first time this has happened. Wake up. Others were just more into hiding it. The whole thing is a dead horse and we should stop beating it.

If anyone needs to apologize it's the media outlets who keep dragging this story on and on and on. Flea came clean right away, and very respectfully I might ad. Let it go already!

Peter Navarro
Peter Navarro

why should they apologize for something they had no control over. The NFL requires they pre-recorded music in order to avoid any foul ups. Denver Westword you are trying to make a non-story into something it is not. WICKED AWESOME FAIL!!!!
