Photos and more below.
For the first time, the Westminster Police Department has used the name of Vincent Neff, the sixteen-year-old student who set himself on fire in the Standley Lake High School cafeteria.

The official revelation comes as a result of an extremely sad development: Nett has died from injuries sustained during his suicide attempt, which took place in full view of approximately sixty students.

Continue for photos, video and more information about this tragic event.

At 7:12 a.m. on January 27, as we've reported, the WPD notes that officers received reports about a fire inside the high school, located on the 10400 block of Holland Street.

An image from the scene, from 7News coverage.
Both police and fire staffers rushed to the scene, where they learned that a teenage boy, Nett, had stepped into the cafeteria and set himself on fire. The burns he suffered were severe, with 7News estimating that they covered 80 percent of his body.

The fire was put out by a custodian, using a fire extinguisher. A woman who works at the school suffered a minor injury when breaking the glass case that held the extinguisher. Otherwise, the only person hurt was Nett, who police believe was trying to commit suicide and didn't intend to harm anyone else. He is also said to have consumed a water bottle filled with bleach.

Another look at Standley Lake after yesterday's incident.
An estimated sixty students were in the cafeteria at the time.

A friend of Nett's who spoke with 9News says she only started noticing worrisome behavior on his part in the week that preceded the incident. But his Facebook page features a number of graphics that are positively heartrending when viewed in retrospect.

Here's one that was posted this past September....

...and here's another from that same month:

Still, it was a Facebook message only shared with his friends that was especially alarming.

Don't respond to sterling anymore.... He's not a person... The fb page is fake and whoever is behind it is a professional troll....look at the profile...

And that has nothing to do with being a sociopath. Learn the terminology before you start throwing it around, Meeky.

Impressive reply. Of course, coming from someone who obviously has the thinking power of a 12 year old, I'm sure this was the best you could muster.

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

Wrong again, Bernard. If this was supposedly some cry for help, there was a much better way to do so. Clearly, he did not want help. He wanted to go out in a blaze of glory...literally.

Right. Sterling Meeks and Nicholas C. Naranjo get the hatred out of your heart. Ill be praying for Vince & his family. May god bless you & keep you

JoJo Renee

Pray for all u negative people just as much as I pray for his family and him. You are NOBODY to judge, in the end GOD is the only one to judge. God bless all of you and pray your hatred goes away and you yourself never have to feel such a horrible pain like his family!

Seriously, Hawkins, it's the ultimate sign of pure douchebaggery to "like" your own comments on Lamebook (besides posting shirtless selfies for the rest of the world to view). Lay off the 'roids for a while; they're seriously impairing your critical thinking abilities....whatever is left of them, that is.

Derrick Hawkins wants to be friends on Facebook. Yeah you need to stop. I'm not gonna accept you bro .

Just gonna have to agree to disagree on this. Clearly you compassion for sunstone you didn't know. Of which the kids had no compassion in his family. If I were related to him I'd be angry with him rather than grieving. On that not I am done arguing with you. Please don't send me anymore Facebook requests Derrick.

" We have no compassion for our fellow man as a human race" You clearly have no understanding of the overall human psyche, do you? Then again, what else should we expect from years of religious/pseudo-religious indoctrination? Yes, there's a biological imperative for the preservation of the species, but there's also a societal imperative to deal harshly with individual members that act adversely towards others. In this particular instance, this particular individual "dealt with himself." In the end, the gene pool is better off as a result. He had ample opportunity to seek professional help if he so desired. It's not as if his "environment" played any role (no record of abuse at home nor any history of substance abuse). No, he made the CONSCIOUS decision to resist any and all intervention. Ergo, he deserves no compassion, whatsoever. Sometimes, you gotta let nature take its course.

Nicholas C. Naranjo
Nicholas C. Naranjo

I gotta agree with what Ms Meeks is stating. He had no regards if what his family would think or feel with him taking the actions he took

Candie Bernard

There are no indications of "sociopathic tendencies" in this boy's actions.

Nicholas C. Naranjo

That what I'm saying Ms Meeks. He endangered people that were by him. Guy was an idiot. Plain and simple.

"This kid could have grown up to do great things to change the world in a positive way." He could have also grown up to be the next Tim McVeigh if given the opportunity (if his brief but vivid history on DWEEBY social media is any indicator). Also, I do not type these words to "feel better about myself." I simply reiterate cold, painful truth. Even if he had somehow survived his injuries, he still would not receive an iota of sympathy for his actions. It's interesting to see many of this kid's defenders claim that he couldn't "seek out help" despite him having lived in relatively well-off suburbia attending a decent public school with ample resources. (Ironically, you almost never hear of a poor minority teen from the hood plotting such shenanigans.) ***This is not someone's fault. I had this planned for years.*** Sorry, but this hardly sounds like someone suffering from mere depression. This is someone with apparent sociopathic tendencies. We should be ecstatic that he didn't have access to assault-style weaponry with high-capacity magazines. Police claim that he wasn't attempting to hurt others but by his act been committed in such a public setting, it's difficult to see how he wasn't. Otherwise, he could have just ended himself at home, in front of the computer screen, like the miserable piece of excrement that he was. Clearly, he wasn't making any sort of political statement either so what other possible motive was there for him to put other schoolchildren in harm's way through his self-immolation?

BertaRudy Martinez = another IDIOT for Obama, whose Catholic, but DOESN'T KNOW JACKSHIT about Obama, because she BLINDLY FOLLOWS whomever the Democrats TELL her to support = DEFINITION of a 'Useful Idiot' !!!

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

Speaking of putting one's name in the history books, where's the comical Anti-Notoriety Campaign to condemn and promote censorship on this particular kid's misdeed? Nowhere to be found. How convenient.

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

Clearly, you have difficulty differentiating between an openly declared statement and an implication. Nevertheless, it doesn't take away from the fact that both you and Nicky Orangeman made valid points. However, your overall argument is bunk. This kid does NOT deserve sympathy. He intentionally put others at risk.

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

Well, Hawkins, this kid certainly didn't demonstrate any compassion or respect for his own family and (supposed) friends/acquaintances when he decided to carry on with his show, did he? No, sir. This was purely an act of selfishness on HIS part and perhaps a desire to put HIS name in the history books, only he very much likely failed in the latter.

I WISH Obama would set himself on FIRE, SO HE CAN RETURN to HELL !!!

Derrick Hawkins

But mr Sterling Meeks we can show compassion & respect for his family & friends who are greiving. This is a public page, what if his family or friends were to read this thread & see their loved one refered to in such negative terms? This is somebody's son, brother, nephew, grandson, friend etc that is deceased. Lets have some respect for his loved ones & not call him names.

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

A 16 yr old who nevertheless KNOWINGLY put other truly innocent individuals in harm's way. While you are certainly within your right to take issue with these purported "negative things" posted in response, you cannot honestly expect others to blindly bestow pity upon him.

Derrick Hawkins
Derrick Hawkins

Its crazy that we have, on the public facebook page of the Denver Westword, grown ass men & women refering to a deceased child as a "coward" and a "dweeb". We have no compassion for our fellow man as a human race, thats what causes young kids to feel the things that they feel, therefore resort to actions such as suicide. If we fix ourselves as adults we can begin to start helping OUR kids. Believe it or not everyone all these kids are ours. We need to take ownership in creating an environment for them to grow & flourish then maybe one day we wont be talking about stories as sad as this one.

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

Regardless, Ms. Nichols, at 16 years of age, this DWEEB should have (and probably did) have capability of distinguishing between right vs. wrong as well as the initiative to seek out help if he so desired (which he clearly did NOT). It's not like we are dealing with toddlers or someone that has been medically certified as mentally handicapped here. He knew what the fuck he was doing. You should be grateful he didn't take anyone else six feet under with him.

Derrick Hawkins
Derrick Hawkins

Sterling Meeks i never said anything about it taking guts to take your own life sir, so you might need to put the pipe down and not call dead children names...that is a very cowardly thing to do sir

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

What's quite funny is that BOTH of you are right. While Nicky Orangeman here may be right (first time I'm actually in agreement with him, Load Have Mercy!) in asserting that this particular DWEEB is a coward for failing to deal with his emotional problems head-on, Hawkins is ALSO correct in the implication that it DOES take guts to take one's own life given that humans have a biological imperative to survive. Yes, ladies & gents. It truly is possible to be both a coward AND a tough guy. LuLz.

Candie Bernard
Candie Bernard

Nicholas, you're not really in a position to criticize someone's written response. Some of your posts demonstrate terrible grammar. Pot, meet kettle.

Derrick Hawkins
Derrick Hawkins

it affects all of us when we lose a young life. This kid could have grown up to do great things to change the world in a positive way. It doesnt matter if i feel better about myself, but im not gonna speak negatively about the young man. He is not here to defend himself. Lets figure out how we can save kids lives who get depressed rather than judge a young man who tragically took his own life.

Nicholas C. Naranjo
Nicholas C. Naranjo

You have a great for giving a shit about a suicidal coward OK. Whatever you wands think than that's all you. People tend to show more empathy towards the human race when it's a child but what about the other people that do this same thing. No one gives a fuck about them. You're just trying to make yourself feel better and justify the actions this kid chose.

Derrick Hawkins
Derrick Hawkins

Ok Nicholas C. Naranjo ill be that, ill be an idiot. But i also have a heart & i cant bring myself to condemn a 16 yr old child who committed suicide. I feel bad for him & his family & his friends. I do wish he would have recieved help that saved his life, but thats on us as a society HE WAS A CHILD our role as adults is to protect our children. So if im an idiot for feeling that way thats fine but im sad for all of us that we have people that will condemn a child who committed suicide.

Nicholas C. Naranjo
Nicholas C. Naranjo

You'd fall into both those categories there guy. All you do is contradict yourself in everything you say. You speak on hatred but sit there and say I shouldn't be in the world. The fuck outta here if you don't know how to properly articulate your thoughts without contradiction. Only anger I see is from you with the name calling and running away. Now that's a true coward man!

Nicholas C. Naranjo
Nicholas C. Naranjo

They're a coward for not wanting to seek help and for not wanting to embrace life for what it is. They were too much of a coward to seek out help that they need. That's all you can do is call names but yet have made one single point you fuckin idiot.

Derrick Hawkins
Derrick Hawkins

Nicholas C. Naranjo wow man i guess you cant teach the ignorant or the heartless, so i dont have much else to say but god bless and please keep your anger and cowardice to yourself & dont spread that hatred. The world would be a better place if people like you were not in it.

Nicholas C. Naranjo
Nicholas C. Naranjo

Anyone that takes their own life and put others in danger is a coward in my eyes. You should probably Google the definition of the word coward because you are obviously oblivious to the actual meaning.

Beth LaPoint Viola
Beth LaPoint Viola

In total agreement Josh. These comments are a disgrace! Thoughts and prayers for his family. I can't imagine their pain

Nicholas C. Naranjo
Nicholas C. Naranjo

So because he's a child I should show more empathy? I don't think so! A suicidal coward is a coward nonetheless. Don't blame the system, yes fucked, for his actions. That's a cop out to justify what he did to himself. They didn't make him choose to take his own life. He could've gotten help from anywhere just like anyone but he chose the latter.

Mike Renna
Mike Renna

If your being bullied he should have set the bullies on fire. Cry baby ass kids growing up now in days

Derrick Hawkins
Derrick Hawkins

Nicholas C. Naranjo my point isnt the bullying aspect. It is we dont know what this young man was feeling that made him resort to the actions that he did. Its easy for us to say he coulda got help or did this & that. We just dont know what resources he had available or what he went thru in his life, and to judge him & call him a coward makes YOU in fact a coward

Some really disgusting "people" here. RIP Vince.
