Reader: People moving to Colorado make the state seem fatter

physically.fit.thinkstock.4.205x205.jpg
Yesterday, we shared a list of most and least obese states -- the first in recent memory that Colorado didn't top from a skinniness standpoint.

A number of our readers had theories about the slippage in the rankings, including this one.

Bret Kantola writes:

It's only because of all the newbies. A fair measurement would be to only use people that have been here say 3 years or more. If they keep weighing the newbs, then the results will always be skewed as we are also one of the fastest growing states now too.

Send your story tips to the author, Michael Roberts.

You know what I have lived in Colorado nearly my whole life and I am overweight but I can still climb a mountain, I can still ride a bike for miles! More new research is showing that your wieght has almost nothing to do with your health. There are thin people walking around with diabetes, heart conditions, high cholesterol levels and other "fat people" problems. If you work out and keep active you will be healthy regardless of your size.

Jordan Snyder, fat people are a problem! They want handicapped parking, they're a problem on airplanes.... They're health will eventually fall on the tax payers

Tell that to some joker in a $600 track suit. You don't have to look far...

Uhhhhhh. Being healthy is not vain and shallow, obviously. Making a list of fat vs. skinny states (where was "being healthy" mentioned?) certainly is vain and shallow and as I said, anecdotal, because how could one possibly make such a list and actually believe it to be accurate?

All the fat people from out of state are going to get in shape because they're in CO now.

I don't find it to be shallow or pathetic at all. We have a very versatile state in which people have the freedom to be active, mostly as they choose. Being healthy isn't vain or shallow.

No Kidding!!! Or horrendous water world. I was repulsed not only with the ridiculous entrance fee but the nastiness of what was represented. Excellent point!

Do you guys intend to start actually reporting things ever again? I actually liked the stuff on local music, food, etc... I keep wanting to unsubscribe, but then I remember when you did more than post people's recycled comments. So what I'm asking is, are you planning to keep heading down this road?

My theory is that Montana pulled ahead only because it is also known as the "Meth Capitol" of the US. Colorado's index hasn't changed dramatically over the years (20%) and Montana wasn't even in the top ten thinnest states in 2012. I do, however, think that those that determine these kinds of things need only to make a stop at Elitch's wave pool in the summer to see that Colorado isn't as thin as it pretends to be.

It's because of CaƱon Shitty.

Only assholes care about this sort of thing. How shallow, pathetic, and extremely anecdotal.
