Excuse me......but most state governments want the growth, and the boom to their economy. States do things to attract people to move there, not to attempt to keep people away. If you want an impoverished place to live where little is done to attract people to move there, move to Alabama or Missisippi.

Good point. I wonder how that was handled.

Single mom here too and no, figure your shit out.

Did you attend that CDOT meeting in Westminster? Their budget is 80% for repairs. Do I like they are selling out to a foreign company? Not at all. The growth here is out of control. Taxing those moving in will do two things...make people think twice before moving in and two, create a higher allotted budget for the repairs that are ON GOING for a state like this with out weather. Sorry that you're not from here but obviously a new residence. You should have done your homework before moving here, Kris. You don't like it, move.

Get some facts straight, Sterling. There are very little natives here anymore. It's those who've moved in.

Sounds like Holly has never struggled for anything or known what it's like to have to go to a food bank for help, all the while working full time for not much. I'm blessed with a great job and two paid for cars with new tires. But never will I stand in judgement of those who may not be able to afford what I can. Let alone call them cheap asses, before walking a mile in their shoes.

Familiarity often instills a sense of "invincibility." How else do you explain how the majority of traffic fatalities often occur when the affected drivers are within a relatively close range of their homes? It doesn't matter where one originates. At the end of the day, it boils down to individual temperament and attention span. Assholes in any other setting will continue to be assholes behind the wheel....and in recent years, this state has attracted quite a-many self-entitled, spoiled-rotten, suburbanite DWEEBY little arseholes who have this notion that they have every right to drive on publicly-funded roads with reckless abandon.

It snows more in along the eastern seaboard, and, yet, the natives there still drive like shit.

This state is already taxed to death because people like Bree want to levee more and more taxes on people that does nothing but support corrupt government. Someone needs to be investigating what exactly is being done with tax money already collected, and why taxpayers seem to be charged fees on top of taxes.

Kris Herzberger Potter

If the unreasonable money charged for registration, tax and tags every year for cars is supposed to be paying for road repairs, then why are so many roads eaten up so badly with potholes? And why is the state selling the rights to state Highways to foreign toll collecting companies to collect more money from us? Somethings really fishy about all this.

Holly I am a single mother working and a student. I can't afford my tires. They are balled. Would u help me out. Like a scholarship. Please I am desperate. Colorado native.

You people talking about how I-25 is "Colorado driving" are way off. You might as well be in Omaha. Or, much worse, Chicago.

Kam Donda

People in Colorado suck at driving? What a surprise. I'm shocked.

Bree Davis
Bree Davis

Right Kris. Then our roads can't have a budget for repairs. It's the nature of the beast with the weather in CO. You live here, you have to pay. You can't afford it, leave. Pretty simple.

Bree Davis
Bree Davis

AMEN!!! I actually think the state should charge a one time "newbie to the state" transit tax. You want to live in this state, you have to pay up front for the congestion and road damage of being overly populated!

Jason Beck
Jason Beck

And this is why I stay away from larger packs of drivers who feel the need to cause traffic by driving right next to each other in large packs.

James Dominguez

So I take it everyone other than the car in the very front got a ticket for careless driving!! Fender benders!!

Brie Lysek

Just because you are a Coloradan doesn't mean you are an expert at driving in the snow. Many of them can't drive when the weather is nice. Could've been anything that caused that accident such as being on a cell phone or hitting an icy spot.

Holly Elkins
Holly Elkins

Actually Kris taxes are the way of America if you haven't heard. How else can they afford to repair our roads that are damaged every year from the bad weather and plows that clear the roads to make them as safe as possible. I would rather pay the tax and have better/safer roads and yet somehow I still afford all season tires and winter tires for my awd SUV. Stop making excuses for irresponsible people. Or better yet why don't you move to FL where you don't pay property taxes on vehicles but the property taxes on homes is outrageous. Would you be happy then?

Kris Herzberger Potter
Kris Herzberger Potter

Holly, in response to "cheap ass self" maybe the state should stop charging people ridiculous amounts of money for tags, taxes, and registration for their cars every year. Maybe some of those people could afford a new set of tires once in awhile.

Bree Davis
Bree Davis

Totally agree!!! Tires are KEY to success in this driving along with knowledgable drivers. I love how CDOT states plates on cars in accidents like this are CO issued. Yeah, try rentals from out of towers? Newly moved to the state? Geniuses CDOT is not. Like those who fly in, rent cars to head to the high country yet have NO clue what to do when caught in this type of weather. Like the poor soul who lost her life - not from here. Her and her husband were in from out of town. Sad, yet shows knowledge of how to handle it here is a necessity.

Hi everybody. I stopped back in to summarize what we've learned. 1 people should drive to their abilities. 2 salt is for food, demon conjuring, and such. 3 People like to wallow in self pity for any reason. 4 online people are mean. 5 if Colorado sucks go back home and be sure to tell all your friends. 6 nobody cares if you're from Cali bra.

Was on I25 today and people speeding everywhere except on the Santa Fe turn that is still a mess. Cop with radar slowed things down on the south end.

Most people follow too closely.  Many accidents would be avoided if drivers would allow more distance between cars.

http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/about/outreach/education/driverTips/Following-Too-Closely.htm

DOUBLE YOUR FOLLOWING DISTANCE IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS

Adjust your following distance to appropriately match weather conditions, road conditions, visibility, and traffic. In emergency conditions, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you will allow you to stop safely and/or to take necessary evasive action.

Did You Know? The average stopping distance for a loaded tractor-trailer traveling at 55 mph (in ideal conditions) is 196 feet, compared with 133 feet for a passenger vehicle

It's about being cautious. Yes, anything can happen, that's why it pays to be cautious, keep at or under the speed limit if the weather is iffy, and have proper distance. When you ride that close to other drivers, you open the door to a possible accident. There's just no reason for it. Drive defensively, and less of these things will occur.

Here's the scary part if this post, unless there was a lot of black ice, which there didn't seem to be where I was driving, how did this happen on ?

I have lived in snow in one place or another for 20 years. There is no prejudice from me, too many drivers, no matter where they may be from, do not respect road conditions. (Four wheel drive does not help you stop.) Take a deep breath, release the throttle, slow down, increase your following distance. (by more than a bumpers length) Try not to consider the merging traffic a personal challenge & let the next guy get on the freeway. City driving is hazardous on the best of days my friends. Be safe out there.

No "Because NOT Native" and for all you shitheads that point the occasional California or Texas plated tourist that pays for this beautiful state that has a fender bender because of inexperience in inclement weather, here's 104 of you that are "Doing It Wrong" all at once. You may be asking yourself "who is this asshole?" I'm the asshole that got a not left on my car that said "FU Texas" because 2 natives were blocking handicapped parking spots at my doctors office and I had hell trying to park and that's what I came out to stuck on my windshield after my visit all because of the license plates on my car. Who's to say I'm not ex military and just transferred back home to my native Colorado from Texas? Who's to say I didn't just purchase the car from Texas & am a native? There were many variables but some asshat decided based on my license plate that he should single me out for being legally temporarily handicapped and trying to get in to the spot this state says I'm untitled to. I hope the idiot that didn't have the balls to confront a handicapped person was involved in this accident. For the 99% of intelligent people in this great beautiful state, RIP to the person that lost their life. No one deserved to die in that accident.
