Nate Tallman murder a pot deal gone wrong? Russell Britton, Moises Mendez busted (45)

Big photos, video below.
It started as a missing persons case. But well over a month later, Lafayette resident Nate Tallman's body was discovered a long way from home -- outside Lusk, a town in Wyoming.

Now, two men -- Russell Britton, 58, and Moises Mendez, 26 -- have been arrested in connection with the crime, with the latter having been taken into custody at the U.S.-Mexico border. And the latest information suggests that the killing took place over a deal for marijuana. Here's what we know so far.

The 25-year-old Tallman has been described as a former high school baseball star who'd been working for his father and had just purchased a new car.

His Facebook page sports plenty of portraits with a baseball theme, including this one....

nate.tallman.2.jpg
...and this one:

nate.tallman.3.jpg
There are a couple of marijuana references, too, include this shot of wrist bands for last year's High Times Cannabis Cup....

nate.tallman.high.times.cannabis.cup.jpg
...but absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.

Then, out of the blue, Tallman vanished on January 21. According to an arrest affidavit accessed by 9News, he left to complete a "marijuana transaction" with Britton, but never returned.

After reporting Tallman missing on January 23, his family launched a Facebook page as part of the quest for information about his whereabouts. Included are graphics like this one:

The reward being offered for information reached $10,000 thanks to generous donations tracked on a GoFundMe page.

Weeks passed with no information, and searches turned up nothing. But then, a discovery precipitated everyone's worst fears coming true.

Continue for more about the arrests in Nate Tallman's death, including more photos and video.

I knew Nate Tallman when he was a young boy, perhaps 10years old. Even then, Nate was a star. Good student, rising baseball star with an infectious smile and just an all around good kid from a good happy family. Sherry and Kevin are great parents and were some of the most kindhearted people someone could hope to run across in lifes journey. It was very clear early on that this kid was special. It does not diminish his families love for him because this was an alleged pot deal gone wrong. It wasn't pot that killed Nate. It was heinous, evil, greedy criminals. Those of you on here, who sit in judgment have no right to do so. His parents are devastated, his brother heartbroken. The rest of his family has suffered as well I am sure. My heart goes out to Sherry and Kevin and Cam. You will see Nate again someday in heavens glory.

This guy? This dead guy? Who are you people?! Have you suffered so much in life that it's made you numb to another's pain? This guy, this dead guy had an amazing family, friends. A mother and father who stand out as the kind most wished they had. A little brother who looked up to him and enough friends and reach to affect many. Thousands. And if you think they don't see this. They do. This guy was infectious. A brilliant light. I wonder if all would say the same for you. You sit behind your safe computer. Judging another who is no longer here to speak for himself. Unless you walk on water, unless you've walked a mile, your opinion means absolutely nothing. Yet another judge without the forethought to remember you are a fallible human. It is the point of this existence. Evolve.

C'mon this guy was a know it all. 25 year old kid driving a $40,000 car, boss's son, partying like a rock star, mover, shaker, asshole breaker..... Been told his whole life he's the superstar.  We only know of marijuana, I'm sure he was multispectral in his dope use.  Remember now that MJ is legal in good old CO, when you go off the rail, you blame something that doesn't look so bad - food(legal), alcohol(legal), anger(legal), marijuana(legal in CO), prescriptions(legal), stupid(legal).  You don't blame the REAL PROBLEM - heroin(not legal), cocaine(not legal), methamphetamine(not legal), Ecstasy(not legal), LSD(not legal), psilocybin(not legal) and all the other associated illegal shit.  Real fine people he was interfacing with there....

All the more reason why is needs to be legal. So u don't have to interact w/ bad people to get want you need.

Forget about the dead guy & his family...this story is clearly all about pot. Ugh!

There seems to be a LOT MORE pot related MURDERS and homicidal violence since marijuana was "legalized" than back when only real criminals were involved in the industry....

... the TRIPLE Murder involving Todd Klarkowski from Boulder, and the killer from Central City

...  this Nate Tallman murder.

... Ken Gorman, Denver's premier pot activist

... the Double Shooting at the 420 rally

... marijuana tourist from Oklahoma,  Brandon Jamaal Goff murdered in Aurora

It's not the weeds fault. It's not the guns fault. It's not the black markets fault. It's the piece of shit who shot hims fault. People in colorado have become de-sensitized. Just because you think weed deals are no big deal anymore, others still kill each other over stupid shit, and will kill you no matter what you think. Whenever money is involved, protect yourself, because money is why people kill, and money has always been legal.

Pot dealers barely deal pot let alone kill stuff

Look at the suspects...I'd be more willing to believe it was cocaine or something a bit more extreme than weed...

It's Wyoming, of course they're going to blame weed.

@xyzabc  Im sure you feel like a real man sitting behind that computer screen judging others for something you know absolutely nothing about. Have you never lost someone that you care for? Or are you such a prick that your not even worth anyones time? What did someone do to you to fill you with such hate? All questions that Im sure only ignite thoughts of ignorance within you. The sick joy you clearly seek from witnessing the pain of others is nauseating. A long hard look in the mirror might do you some good, that and some compassion for humanity. You are right about one thing, Nate was a superstar, and he lived a life that people like you can only dream of. With a smile on his face the whole time...

Yet again another sad person that thinks they have the right to judge. Have you looked in the mirror Latisha? If you're honest, I don't think you have. It all comes back. Like a boomerang. Insensitive and small minded.

That dead guy was my good friend and he has a name, it's Nate. Maybe you should be a little less disrespectful when speaking. It would be much appreciated, seriously.

@DonkeyHotay  Remember the first car you bought? Remember how it seemed there were a lot more of those cars on the road after you bought it? I think it's a similar perception issue. People (particularly law enforcement) are probably looking for such connections since pot has been a high-profile issue, and seeing more connections as a result.

Cognitive_Dissident

@Monkey  I'd say the black market has as much to do with it as anything. Of course, the way you get rid of black markets is by above-board (I.E., legal) markets. Excessive taxation and regulation limits the value of so-called legality. That needs to be taken into account as well.

@Monkey  ... money doesn't kill people, people with guns kill people for money.

When money is outlawed, only outlaws will have money.

@user6900420  ... wow, you can tell the drug involved -- in spite of police reports -- by the "look" of the suspects.

Fascinating.

BTW -- Moises looks BAKED out of his skull.

Monkey

@user6900420  So you're less willing to believe weed was involved? Is money for/from weed any different than money for/from cocaine? If your shoes are worth a lot of money, there will be someone willing to kill you for them, no matter how extreme they are.

DonkeyHotay

@LibTardsInParadise  ... as long as there is Big Government REGULATION and TAXATION there will be a "Black Market"

@BiddyBrew @xyzabc  20 days later the story comes out.  "Judging others for something you know nothing about"  Yes I'm a real man and I can see through you guys like looking through glass.  The proof is in the pudding...this guy is no different than the people who are still breathing that were involved in his death, he wasn't incarcerated, they are.  I look in the mirror everyday and I like what I see, but I follow rules and I don't take stupid chances. Eat your words, I knew you would.

It's a free country.  Stupid is as stupid does.....
