Big photos below.
What does LoDo need? Two weeks ago, mysterious chalk messages suddenly appeared on sidewalks across downtown Denver -- in 83 spots, to be exact -- referring passersby to a website where they could share their thoughts on what LoDo was missing. "In 25-square blocks, LoDo has boutique clothing stores, multi-story nightclubs and everything in between," the site noted. "Well, maybe not everything. Maybe LoDo is just one thing, place or business short of everything. And we want to know what it is. So, tell us. What do you think LoDo needs?"

If your answer was a new bank, you're in luck: Today the Glenwood Springs-based Alpine Bank will open its first Denver branch, at 1777 Wynkoop Street.

And at the same time, bank officials promise to reveal the rest of the information they gathered with their two-week-long campaign, which collected suggestions from over 2,500 people who had plenty of ideas of what LoDo needs.

At this writing, here were the top ideas listed on the site:

Number 9:

Who gives a shit about lodo? I live on 37th and Colorado, and it is a friggin' food desert out here. Build US a grocery store! It's not right for families to have to take a bus for half an hour just to feed their kids.

LoDo needs water fountains and public toilets, as does the rest of Denver.

A check cashing store?!?  Uhm... No.

A grocery store?  Yes.  Gas station, yes.  More parking structures?  Yes.

I was asked by one of the girls wearing the sign around her neck saying "what does LoDo need?" And I told her less drunk douche bags, and the look she gave me said, "I can't legitimately put that down.." So I said even though Jesus Saves is on like the cusp of LoDo, I would still love to see a place for the homeless to seek refuge. It would be better for everybody.

I imagine in 5-10 years, Denver Westword will be doing a piece on you, Kevin Hughes. They will probably interveiw your mother also for her perspective.
