Reader: People who don't like red-light cameras drive like inconsiderate a$$bags

photo.radar.van-thumb-565x293.jpg
Our post about the latest effort by one state senator to ban red-light cameras inspired numerous readers to share their dislike of the devices. But not everyone thinks they're such a bad thing. Here's a case in point.

John Elliott writes:

The only people who don't like the red light cameras are the ones who drive like inconsiderate self-centered assbags and don't follow basic traffic laws. Bunch of whiny c*nts because they get caught running lights or blowing through them at high speed. I guess the next motherfucker that blows a light and hits someone or kills them gets followed, beaten or shot....

... yes, that could be the case, but just remember this: these cameras are not everywhere, but inconsiderate a**bag drivers are.

I am not a supporter of passive law enforcement. I look both ways at green lights, no matter if it just turned green or I am driving up to an intersection.

actually, people who oppose red-light cameras simply don't want to live in an orwellian surveillance nightmare hellscape.

Sometimes speeding through is safer than slamming on the brakes (especially when you have a tailgater). And what if there are jaywalking pedestrians that trap you in the intersection? Or what if you DO stop but you're technically an inch or two over the line that triggers the camera. Nope, the assbags are those who lack the critical thinking skills to realize these cameras are unfair and unnecessary.

The guy who wrote this is a moron! #1 red lights cameras violate your constitutional right to due process & you can't confront your accuser. #2 red light cameras have been shown to increase car accidents because people slam on the brakes to avoid getting a ticket or they speed up to try to make it through the yellow light. 9 states have banned red light cameras for a reason. All they are is just cash revenue when in reality it does nothing for "public safety"

The real problem with these cameras is that they are simply a revenue source for cities. If these cameras were about anything other then revenue for the city then the penalties wouldn't be only fines. Imagine if the penalty wasn't a fine but rather aimed at improving driving with increasing penalties for each offense in a year. Sure give out minor fines for the first few but then require habitual offenders to pass a written driving test, pass a personal driving test, pass a mandatory driving class, then community service, then major fines, then driving restrictions of only to and from work, then losing your license for a month, then a year, then jail time. Then again if these camera's were anything more then a minor annoyance people would really be up in arms and demand a real officer be the one to use their judgement on handing out these tickets. These cameras should provide 10 seconds of video before the picture so that it can be taken to court to decide the individual situation that the ticket was given. People really need to stop paying these things automatically and demand to be served a court subpoena to take each and every one of these to court. then you will see just how popular these things really are with both the court and the people. As it is now they are simply an automated revenue machine for the cities and that's BS.

Everyone is too easily pissed off behind the wheel. Chill out people. Traffic is a system

I've had them flash me for making completely proper right turns. Used to happen almost every single day on my way to work. I don't see a problem with them other than the fact they can be a bit glitchy.

Epilepsy goes well with a blinding flash of a lazy cops job to make sure I have a seizure on the way to work. Yeah so funny and dramatic I forgot to laugh.

They're crap. They rarely are in school zones where they should be and truly only exist to produce extra revenue for the city. They don't stop speeding and actually cause more traffic incidents then it prevents. Not to mention getting a ticket from an illegally parked car is straight BS

Rocs Anne could it be that they're inaccurate?

I think many people will either slam on their brakes too soon to avoid the ticket or try to speed up to blow through the yellow. I've seen many accidents at these certain lights due to people being so scared of getting a ticket, they slam on their brakes.

Or maybe not getting blinded by the flash because someone else is breaking the law. Lets have a photo shoot on the highway, smart idea...

I think there's a good reason people who don't like red light cameras don't like them. Could it be they don't like getting caught?

Or maybe they just don't want a police state with cameras watching our every move.
