Photos: Andrea Marquez's alleged road rage victim catches her on camera

Andrea Marquez. Photos and more below.
It's usually tough to get a photo of a road rager in action, since most drivers dealing with one are too busy trying not to crash to snap a shot. But the victim of Andrea Marquez's alleged freak-out had an advantage: Marquez is said to have actually stopped traffic and blocked lanes in order to retrieve something from her trunk -- possibly a weapon, the victim feared.

We've got the photos, the arrest affidavit and the rest of this strange story.

About 5:30 p.m. on March 12, according to the police report on view below, a woman was driving her 2006 Ford Fusion west on Interstate 70 between Colorado Boulevard and the I-225 interchange in rush-hour traffic when she saw a gold Nissan following her closely.

Too closely, she decided -- so she tapped on her brakes to let the Nissan's pilot a know to back off.

The Nissan's driver, identified as Marquez, definitely got the message, but the woman says she reacted to it badly. Marquez allegedly continued to tailgate the woman, then zoomed up alongside her and offered a one-finger salute -- after which she began throwing unknown items at the woman's car, denting the left rear quarter panel as a result.

The woman told investigators she tried to get away, but the traffic was too heavy to create much distance between her and the Nissan. After she managed to change lanes, Marquez is said to have zoomed around and in front of her a couple of times before slamming on the brakes, nearly causing accidents as a result.

Finally, the report says Marquez brought her car to a halt in front of the Ford, blocking not one but two lanes as she exited her vehicle and walked to her trunk.

The woman, afraid that Marquez was getting a gun (there's an arrest report reference to "an unknown metal weapon"), quickly grabbed a couple images, including this one....

...before squeezing between the Nissan and the center median and getting the hell out of there.

The shots were subsequently shared on the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers Facebook page as well as on 9News, Crime Stoppers' media partner, and this exposure roused a tipster who identified the woman in the photos as Marquez. At that point, the investigator pulled Marquez's driver's license photo, and despite a change in Marquez's hair color since the March incident, he was still able to tell she and the person in the victim's pics were one and the same.

Now, the Denver District Attorney's Office has hit Marquez with counts related to criminal mischief, menacing, reckless driving and driving under revocation -- meaning, presumably, that she'd lost her license and wasn't supposed to be behind the wheel in the first place.

Marquez is slated for a May 16 court appearance. In the meantime, though, she's free on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond. That's something to bear in mind the next time you're tailgated by a gold Nissan.

Here's a larger look at Marquez's booking photo, followed by the arrest affidavit.

not long ago i was on i-225 south almost to the parker road exit. i was in the far right lane driving 10 miles per hour above the speed limit when this dodge pickup with a work trailer pulled up on my ass. he was so close i couldnt see his front bumper. i touched my brakes and he backed off then came zooming back up like he was gonna hit me. he got on my ass again and i pulled over on the shoulder to let him pass. he went past me then pulled over on the shoulder too and got out of his truck. at that time i called 911 to report what was happening.  i practice open carry and when he got out of his truck i got out of my jeep. i did not draw my pistol but i put my hand on it. he was busy grabbing a crowbar from his back seat and when he looked up i was standing there ready to draw with the police on the phone. he very quickly changed his mind and got back in his truck and went about his business. i told the police dispatcher nevermind and went on about my business too. i guess the moral of the story is, for all of you road ragers, be careful about who you bully. you may end up with an ex army ranger who aint gonna be intimidated by a fucking crowbar, baseball bat, etc etc. its all fun and games until you get shot in the face.

Driving slow and blocking traffic in the LEFT passing lane, no doubt ... and then dangerously brake-checks the other driver, instigating the road rage incident?

Reap what ye sow, you ignorant slow-driving left-lane blocking bitches!

I think the publicizing of this incident is misguided.  Why not post the mug shots of rapists and child molesters?  I'd much rather be warned about them.  I also think they deserve the public humiliation more than an angry driver.  Frankly, I don't believe there's an innocent person in this situation, unlike a rape or molestation crime.

It's the initial drivers fault - stop trying to be the damn traffic police! Drive defensively & don't instigate other drivers because you think they're following too closely! If they hit you, it's their fault. So concentrate on your own driving!

This happened to me back in October exiting 70 E to E470 S. Except the dude rammed my truck with his, twice! Then he told the trooper it was all my fault that he chased me for five miles down the highway and hit me!

She wasn't being the "Traffic Police."  She wanted the bitch off of her ass!  Don't lie and say you wouldn't have done the same.

...that's what YOU get for driving slow in the PASSING lane and then ignorantly and dangerously brake-checking those behind you.

@haloguy628 ... there are FOUR FUCKING LANES there, you slow-driving left-lane blocking asswipe.

They were on I-70 west bound between 225 and Colorado blvd.

KEEP RIGHT except to PASS!

@DonkeyHotay You must really be a donkey since you still don't get that "rush-hour" traffic is stop and go both lanes. So it really does not matter which lane you are as both are full. Especially "rush-hour" traffic on I-225.
