Earlier this week, we posted about the ten Denver neighborhoods where you're most likely to get your car stolen, using Denver Police Department data from 2009 to 2013 obtained by Fox31. But that was only one of several offenses for which figures are available.

Today, our focus is aggravated assault, and the results are quite different from those involving car theft; five neighborhoods didn't appear on the previous list. Look below to count down the top ten, complete with interactive graphics (if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map") and aggravated assault totals from each area.

Number 10: North Park Hill

Number of aggravated assaults 2009-2013: 165

Number 9: Lincoln Park

Number of aggravated assaults 2009-2013: 196

Continue to keep counting down the top ten Denver neighborhoods for aggravated assaults.

This was over a four year period? I can name cities where these numbers are a four month occurrence.

All my favorite places in the city, but yes, sadly pretty bad areas.

Some things don't change. The named areas have always been shady in Denver.

The area next to Five Points is also, awful and the Real Estate is high priced given how dangerous it is.

On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller (PDF), the United States Supreme Court issued its first decision since 1939 interpreting the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Court ruled that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution confers an individual right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes such as self-defense.

2nd Amendment was created to protect Americans from a tyrannical government, not a bunch of thugs

14 blocks worth of car windows and home windows shot out last night in Whittier & City Park West (parts of which are still considered 5 Points). Bet that doesn't make the news, just like the regular stabbings, rapes, assaults and random shootings in the Ballpark Neighborhood never seem to make the news. What's with the news media sweeping all of these crimes under the carpet/not reporting them? The City or Mayor's Office have you by the short and curlies telling you not to report/print them?

#1 was the five points. Not surprised. My city and where I live was not on the list! Amen!!!

John Elliot, exhibiting himself as the perfect example for gun control. It's nut cases like him that prove the need for heavy regulations. As clearly laid out in the Constitution and as practiced in this country until the last 30 years or so.

Yeah...gosh...what else do those neighborhoods have in common?

Only if you're either too stupid or too timid to use it when the time comes

I live in City Park West, 2 blocks from Colfax and previously lived in Cap Hill for 8 years. Being aware of your surroundings is everything. I've only been approached once in Denver-at 10th and Federal-and those two punks got maced!

Is there any reason why readers have to click through FIVE PAGES to read the entire story?  Just give us a 'one page' option so we don't have to get carpal tunnel to read an article...

Jazz in the Park is a great place to feel that racial "vibe."  The audience is made up of the white side and the thug side.  As long as one stays away from the thug side, it's reasonably safe.

Of course, its the areas with the highest concentration of bars and nightclubs. These places are mostly fine during the day, but not at bar-close!

Thanks Michael. Good info in your recent posts regarding neighborhood crime. I've lived in Capital Hill near your ground zero for over 3-years. 20+ years in Denver all together. So far it has been a fine experience. Lots of animated characters, but no problems so far. As always, you have to watch your back in the city, however, as Robert pointed out, violence can happen to anyone without provocation.

If Arvada was part of Denver County, I'm sure it would have made the top 10.

I live in the Westwood area. If this is one of the worse areas, I really did pick the right city to move to. I walk these streets every night, and for your information, I haven''t hit anyone this week!!

Thankfully all of those assault victims shit and pissed themselves to avoid the assaults because that is the prescribed method to deescalate the situation instead of arming yourself and defending yourself properly.

Ah ha ha ha! I lived in #1 when I gave birth to my twin boys, lived in #3 while I was prego....It wasn't that bad...you just don't walk around in the dark by yourself...although I did use to walk to the bus or walk to work at 4am or so...that was always interesting.

You keep bellyaching about how the neighborhood that YOU moved to is soooooo bad, actually you act like a baby. Maybe its time you GTFO instead of being such a whiny moron.

"Interesting" is an interesting word for those 4 a.m. walks. Thanks for posting, Amber.
