I agree with you. Having lived in Mexico (Oaxaca) for a year - I can say their shrimp cocktail is very authentic.

El Tajado is great. Just don't ask them for a martini.

Santiago's on Broadway isn't really a restaurant. It's more fast food. El Tepehaun is pretty good.

El Tepehaun -- Broadway & Hampden -- great chips and salsa and green chile, been there since 1978. The perfect little dive! One of my favorite places to get Mexican in Denver. There's a 4Gs closer to Evans now. Their pretty good, too. Zocalo is pretty inauthentic. Save that place for the tourists buying weed on Broadway!

Everyone knows Broadway is for weed. Federal and sheridan are for Mexican.

I have to admit. Zocalo is probably the worst gringo Mexican food I've ever had. Glad it's gone. As for 4Gs. I don't hear anyone talking about it. Adalita's is your typical Colorado Mexican fare. Not bad but not great. Most main stream joints are mediocre at best. If you want real Mexican food you need to venture on over to south federal or east Colfax. Most of you gringos won't even bother with going and I don't blame you. They aren't exactly yuppie friendly and they only speak Spanish. Fine by me. Keeps you a-holes from gentryfying all of the Denver metro areas. El Tepehuan is pretty darn good and hey guess what? it's been there far longer than most of the places mentioned besides el tejado ( which is pretty darn good too ) even though they both cary gringo foods such as nachos and burritos. I would imagine finding good Mexican food is similar to Chinese people finding good Chinese. It's here you just have to know where to go and what to order. That menu thing is meant for the taste buds of gringo Americans. I'm going to guess most of you don't like tripas ( cow intestines ) or barbacoa ( roasted cows head ). So is there good Mexican food on south broadway. Yes. It's all a matter of perspective, tastes and comfort level.

If you live in Denver and complain about how far you have to travel to get good Mexican food, you are a snobby asshole.

@TheFabulousMarkT ... Wastword doesn't respect arbitrary municipal borders when it's convenient for them -- like covering Edgewater, Glendale, Lakeside, etc ... and their circulation extends into the entire Greater Denver suburbs ...

... go where the Good Food is, border be damned.
