Chris "Birdman" Andersen.
A post about former Nugget Chris "Birdman" Andersen become a recluse after he was victimized in a bizarre double-Catfish scheme inspired sympathy, regret and anger from readers. Here's a comment that includes elements of all three.

Mark Leiby writes:

The media blasted the front pages about what a perv he is, but when the truth was found out it barely made a blip on the media radar. Shame....

I'm happy for him, he's no longer in cowtown colorado. Now he's bigger celebrity in the world being in Miami.

Wheres all the media trucks when he is cleared of all charges? Negativity is what sells, who cares if your found innocent later!! That stinks but a truth in this land we call home of the free... suddenly I'm a Miami heat fan

I feel bad for Bird he was never anything but friendly whenever I met him. It's total bullshit.

Looking at Chris Anderson when hewas in Denver, think he was treated really poorly. He did alot of work for children in the Denver community. He should be commended.

It's his money. Let him spend it in whatever he wants as long as he's not hurting anyone.

Yes... all that digging around they did and found nothing... all because someone "thought" he may have done all that. Also the Nuggets fucked up and didn't see the whole thing through. They jumped to conclusions and released him and now he's playing for the worst team possible, but at least he has a ring.

The hair and tattoos do not define the man... The heart and humanity do....thank you Jack Smith!!!

The media has ruined more peoples lives then I can say. To be upset only because you happen to like this one makes you part of the problem really. They are constantly showing faces and naming people who have not been convicted of anything in a court of law yet but since it is no fun to watch a reporter on the court house steps telling us about the days actual convicted criminal they will continue in the current practice knowing people only get mildly upset every know and then.

Bird is a very talented ball player who's life was destroyed by a psychotic recluse who found joy in fucking with people's lives on- line. The hair and tattoos don't define the man - his heart and humanity do. The press dragged his name through the mud, but they sure as hell haven't apologized since the truth came out. Really surprised by all the 'hater' comments on here because of his tattoos and such. Maybe some people should remember the old adage: 'Don't judge a book by it's cover.'

He should be ashamed of those bad tattoos, that Dood has all this money to spend on that garbage?

Headlines have become a type of "porn" and people will read or click no further than the headline itself. When the story broke it was "Birdman Investigated for Child Porn" or whatever. When I say, "or whatever" I am highlighting the fact that the media draws clicks or eyeballs by using that headline, even though there was NEVER anything about this case that involved child pornography. It simply did not exist, and yet that was what the average person was led to believe. "Hey, did hear about that Nuggets player? The one with the mohawk and tattoos all over his face and neck? Yeah, I know, he's SO GROSS! Well the cops went to his house and found all kinds of child porn! I KNEW he was a weirdo! I mean just LOOK at him." That's what soccer moms were saying to each other at Whole Foods and Target and Andersen is forever a pervo in their eyes. Meanwhile, none of it is true and the guys life is ruined. Its bullshit.

I never realized it till it was pointed out to me, but the OJ trial started all this 24/7 coverage. Now the news HAS to make up / sensationalize "news" to cover time, and generate interest.

How about innocent until proven guilty? Media loves to lead with tantalizing headlines.

Sensationalism trumps real journalism in today's world. It's easier than doing real work.

Yes. The media, especially the westword, sensationalize everything.

I do agree. But anything less wouldn't have sold papers. Even the Westword is guilty. And believe me, the only reason we're hearing that he's innocent is because he's famous..
