Reader: We need to make Colorado seem less attractive so people will stop moving here

average.denver.home.1b.jpg
Our post featuring five metro-area homes selling for around $371,650 -- the average price in Denver and a new record high -- prompted comments that often went beyond opinions on the properties. Here's the take of a reader who's wary of anything that makes Colorado look too good to people not already living here.

Marcus Rose writes:

What we need to do is make other places more attractive to people so they stop moving here! Parker Road between Parker & Franktown is getting out of control with the amount of people who have moved here. I really don't care about my property's worth...I care about the real estate bubble breaking so people find another place to live instead of Colorado! Texas sounds great to me! Let them move there instead!

We did try to get the RNC.  The sulfur smell from that mess would gag a maggot.

High culture and local culture are two different things, and you seem to be confusing them. Yes Denver has arts and museums, what city doesn't? What Denver lacks is a sense of place, something that makes it unique. It's really just a boring, bland middle American city, much like Omaha. It's not even as interesting as nearby cities like Kansas City, Salt Lake City, or Albuquerque. Jazz and barbecue help to define KC, obviously the Mormon church defines SLC, and the blending of Native American and Spanish cultures give character to ABQ. What makes Denver unique other than legal weed?

You haven't been around Texas then. Panhandle... Well not even all of that is flat. No water? We have massive lakes CO can't touch. I don't think you know what you're talking about. I have lived and toured in both.

That's not hard. Just take unedited photos of places. And include all the litter, the miscellaneous junk lying around, and an average ghetto family passing by.

john england your examples of denver's sad excuse for culture have me laughing over here... first friday and cruisers?! lol a bunch of white people acting like they are "alternative" is what these things are. cruisers used to be fun until everyone and their mother started going. first friday is so crowded and filled with overpriced food trucks these days, i don't even go and i live three blocks from santa fe! the art and music fests are the same way! the privately owned restaurants you speak of are expensive and overwhelming filled with trendy people. i have more culture in my pinky than this entire city has.

As a Colorado native I reserve the right to tell everyone to just go away. We don't want you here.

MR."Thank you Dan for thinking I'm a native...I was honored! However, I can't take the credit though..I was geographically challenged...I'm a Boston Native! Not proud of it...but its the truth!"

I think a few other states need to legalize weed QUICK so the wrong people don't move here who JUST want to smoke weed.

As CO native, I don't mind people moving here in general. I've ran into some total douchebags from out of state, but I've also encountered some douchey fellow natives as well, it's all relative.

That is the painful truth? Pretty lame, cut me to the core why don't you.

In Michelle Bowes's world "asshole" is code for anyone who dares confront me with painful truth.

hahaha I've been hearing that for than 50 years with each wave of growth i. e. 'I'm here now so let's close the door.' Sorry folks but the ones with biggest grievance are the Utes displaced from land now occupied by Grand Jct., Delta and Montrose. In any event before the first European got here there was already a history of shifting peoples and conflict. Pre Columbian North America was no Eden.

Just make it federally legal all the recents can go back. As for the rest. Off with their heads!

Sorry but I agree, Colorado is getting way too crowded for my liking. Traffic jams at 2pm, what happen to rush hour at 4-5? Not to mention the light rail going up causing even more traffic. Houses are way over priced, even in our area of Aurora, in the ghetto where I live. This is just my personal opinion. I would rather raise my children in a smaller town with smaller classrooms. If I get my way, I will move out of this beautiful state and be able to afford to live and a beautiful house for a reasonable price!

Sure. You can either live in one of the best, most forward cities in the country or save some money and be brutally murdered in Chi-town.

Have to agree John. If you don't register your vehicle here after 6 months, you aren't living here.

Because the neighborhood on the west side of the stadium, formerly nice homes. are now raped of their status with the building of the cheapest pieces of $400,000 crap of compressed particle board.

I agree. The bunch that have arrived, have no class, lots of cash and the Head Pimp aka Mayor Hancock is all gladhandin' He has destroyed neighborhoods, displaced the poor and allowed the sheriffs to beat prisoners. He is no WEbb, Pena or Hick .

Have to agree with this one. Our state is beginning to look like California.

Dan Ruisi, I think some of it is people wanting to break new ground in life. I fell in love with Seattle the first time I came here. Yeah the traffic sucks but there are all kinds of resources both in an urban and rural setting here. I love being close to the ocean! I'm not a native Coloradans but I learned the ropes well enough from paying visits to family to get the" gist" of it. As so much of the time it depends on if it's a good fit for you. I have great memories of Denver and still love it there I just can't say the six years in Fort Collins were all that great. Pretty unfriendly there in my opinion or maybe I should say not genuine people to know. I'm glad you like CO and the sun! Best wishes to you there from a Seattleite to a former one. P. S. I don't miss Colorado bipolar weather. It is refreshing here in that and many regards. The politics are more digestible here too and WA will be getting pot shops too!

With your attitude Michelle, sounds like you never should have left MA Here is an Idea...pick a state and stay there....living as a Gypsy won't get you many friends!

How are we too crowded? Please explain to me, with facts, how we're too crowded?

I knew what to expect with the legalization of marijuana that's why I didn't vote for it. It should be done on a national scale. You transplants are so rude attutude from hell. Maybe thats why some native are haters. All I'm saying is if you move here pitch in register your cars or pay a residence tax. If I moved to another country I would have to learn the native language and adapt by their native laws and native ways of life.

There ARE plenty of other places to live. But guess what? I wanna live here....soooooooo, um yea. You should just stop. Lol

Jenny Tossie

Well what did you think was gonna happen when you voted for it??? Did you honestly think people were really gonna stay in their "own" state? Wow lmao. Hilarious. And "your" state?? Tell me what classifies it as yours?? You were born here? So what. Last time i checked people move all over with the freedom to do so. Im PROUD to be a transplant and having lived here for year now, but guess what? Im STAYING and this IS my home. Im pretty sure the Native Americans were saying the same thing when a bunch of assholes with your way of thinking moved in on "their" state. Omg dont make me laugh.

Dan Ruisi

Maybe you should be in a different country where people cannot move around from state-to-state. Otherwise, guess what? Colorado belongs to the 320 million people of Murica, as does every other state.
