Reader: Bust the drunk drivers and leave the f*cking stoners alone!

Our post about the Colorado State Patrol denying that Keith Kilbey was turned into a stoned-driving poster boy even though he was incredibly drunk in addition to being high riled up a lot of readers. This post exemplifies many others.

Jasmine Duran writes:

That's so funny that when this happened all they mentioned was that he was driving under the influence of marijuana. In the beginning they didn't say much about alcohol at all. Now we hear he was three times the legal limit drunk. Yeah guess they failed to mention the real reason he hit the patrol cars. He could have been stoned 3 times over the legal limit and still probably would not have hit CSP cars. Wake up people: The alcohol is what's bad. Leave the fucking stoners alone! H A T E R S !

Both are illegal and it's a very stoner attitude to think it's no big deal to blaze up and drive.

if your ability is impaired by prescriptions it's illegal to drive. However it's not as simple as a blood alcohol level and is highly subjective, so it's up to the officer to evaluate your driving. A blood test after being arrested can confirm high levels of drugs. Just because they are legal doesn't make it legal to take and drive if it impairs your ability.

Current stats show cell phones are more dangerous than both.

Cannabis poses no threat to traffic safety, alarmists' claims to the contrary notwithstanding.  Please bear in mind that our rate of traffic fatalities has fallen.  Dr. Rees of UC Denver attributes the drop to drivers' substitution of cannabis for alcohol (search for "Medical Marijuana LawsTraffic Fatalities, and Alcohol Consumption", then read its abstract).

Yes, I agree. Impaired, is impaired. But just because you ingested some weed, doesn't make you impaired

These damn ignorant pot heads thinks its ok. Lock them all up. Or better yet stick them all on a island and leave them there

They need to figure out a way to get the test right, and I'm ok with it. I just don't want to get pulled over sober after working all day and get a DUI because the limit is so low. There are actual receptors in the brain for cannabis, so your body doesn't treat it as a real poison and it takes much longer than any other drug to leave the body.

Smokin' a bowl, sipping on 15-yr old single malt and watching Gilligan's Island reruns. I'm about as far from upset as one can be. ;)

Before you get all mad you should know its just a movie line. So, yeah. Calm down if you're getting all upset

You drive impaired - stoned, drunk, whatever - and cause me to be in an accident, and I swear that if survive that I will hunt you down and put a round into your head. Angry? Fucking right, after some shitbag stoned asshole ran me off the road on my motorcycle going up I25 near the Wyoming border 2 years ago. Fortunately, he slammed nosefirst into a concrete barrier as a result and ended up paralyzed from the waist down...he deserved it. Guy was so wasted he could barely speak, and he had a zero BAC

Bryan Moberg, your comparisons are idiotic

Your reader is a fucking buffoon. Driving while impaired is driving while impaired...it doesn't matter if it's because of pot, alcohol or being attacked by a rabid zombie lobster in your car. Stop pissing, moaning and whining like petulant 13 year old girls about the penalties. Don't want to take the penalty, don't do shit that will get you one, and take some personal fucking responsibility for your own actions instead of blaming law enforcement or how life is "a unfair".

If you f*** tards think that weed is so bad to drive on try it for yourself then get wasted drunk and drive alcohol is way worse marijuana make people drive better they are calmer and way better state of mind

Bryan Moberg

considering the stoned driving thing is a complete joke yes, if driving impaired is the issue than tired drivers should be arrested as well as drivers who really need to go to the bathroom etc. etc.

David Alley

No. If the law isn't written correctly it must be changed, but driving while intoxicated isn't appropriate behavior.

People should not drive stoned, it's not as bad as drinking but it's not good, I speak from experience

It's time to take control of these gangs of police.

That "science" you rely on was published where? Your experience and "knowledge" is based on what? Let's talk after you graduate high school when you've learned to differentiate fact from "some guy said" knowledge. Both substances impair reaction time and cognitive reason. I'll not argue if one is better or worst because that's not meaningful - any impairment is unacceptable given the facts lives are at risk. Now, smoke another bowl and get to class.

Weed is the devil's drug. Lock em all up and throw away the key!

Maggie May

In tests, stoned drivers only seem to show impairment if they are not regular smokers. A high nano gram count could actually prove to show less actual impairment. If someone uses daily, that is their normal. Someone who rarely smokes may be wasted from one hit, with a low count. The science isn't there for proving stoned driving.

Tina Sanchez
Tina Sanchez

You can get arrested if you take medicine like NyQuil so I think any substance that causes impairment should have the same consequences. I have seen accidents by both drunk and stoned drivers and the results have all been the same...luckily nobody got killed.

If weed is bad so is any god that supposedly created this planet because he made this plant as a gift to man and once again man has fucked it all up

Adam Johnson
Adam Johnson

The 5 nanograms is bullshit someone who smokes on the weekends is over that! Weed makes you cautious and drive slower drunk makes you roudy and wreck less you tell me the difference. The way the state is dealing with this is completely fucked, different substance than alcohol needs to be treated as such.

God Westward, you post the stupidest sh*t! They're both bad.

I'm an old-school stoner from the 70's and I believe that driving while stoned is every bit as dangerous as driving while drunk. You're a fool if you believe any differently. You're worse than a fool. You're a selfish moron who doesn't care about others on the road and that makes you fucking worthless as a human being. Grow the fuck up and be responsible before you kill someone.

Shawna Hyde

Then they need to have roadside tests for prescription drug users, too...

I drove high once. I just ended up driving slowly laughing at everything. But that was just me.

... even the AUTHORS and PROMOTERS of A64 knew it was so DANGEROUS that they declared DUI-marijuana shall REMAIN ILLEGAL.

The VOTERS affirmed that and it is now part of the Colorado Constitution!

Obey the Will of THE PEOPLE!

Any "doctor" that claims marijuana commercialization has CAUSED highway deaths to decrease should have their credentials revoked on that idiocy alone.
