Jeffrey Warkocz, Colorado Springs cop, busted for drug felony and more

In recent months, we've been inundated with allegations of police officers breaking bad in a big way. Note the seven Denver cops to get in trouble in 2014, another Denver officer who blamed his DUI on an imaginary friend, and an ex-cop from Walsenburg accused of dealing heroin.

The latest law enforcer on the wrong side of the law? Colorado Springs Police officer Jeffrey Warkocz, who's been arrested on a felony drug charge -- and that's not all.

Thus far, the Colorado Springs Police Department has released only the basics in regard to Warkocz's bust. The CSPD notes that after an investigation, the 51-year-old, who's reportedly been a member of the force since 2002, was arrested at around 6 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit, a class 4 felony.

The case is being referred to the district attorney's office in anticipation of formal charges. In the meantime, Warkocz has been placed on administrative leave with pay.

Additional information comes courtesy of the Colorado Springs Gazette, which cites court documents showing that Warkocz has also been accused of careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident to police owing to an incident in April.

Warkocz is due in court next week. In the meantime, Colorado Springs Police Chief Peter Carey has released the following statement: "The arrest of an officer not only impacts the department but also the community we serve. Please be reassured that the investigation is conducted with the same integrity and the arrest is carried out in the same manner as all of our investigations."

No doubt Carey and other police chiefs in the area wish fewer of these investigations were necessary. Here's a look at Warkocz's full-size booking photo.

I know Jeff. He is a very nice, kind person. He was legitimately prescribed highly addictive painkillers and always told me that he would much rather use safer mmj, but the force just wouldn't allow it. Any doctor prescribing oxycontin is as much (really more) at fault for the painkiller epidemic than anyone who trusts the doctor not to lead them down the wrong path. I'm a pothead and he is a cop. He has never been anything but humble and friendly in my presence. We really need to look at the fact that anyone in pain needs access to marijuana, before we judge people without having the whole story.

They get a badge and then think that the law does not apply to them , they are lucky they passed the background checks again their list to call lied for them,

we treat cops like they are above the law and take tax payer money to compensate for their many mistakes instead of holding them responsible. What the hell did you expect to happen?

They're not asked to do anything. They choose to be nazi soldiers ruining lives.

They don't get paid shit for what they are asked to do and put up with on a daily basis. Not really surprising they would try to make money on the side legal or illegal.

Because 65% of the people that live in Colorado are wack jobs. I may be young and not well 'seasoned' but of all the places I've been and all the things I've seen Colorado, by far has the most screwed up scene of people. There is something deliberately wrong. I think it may have something to do with living in the weirdest grassland dessert on the planet.

Um...because they are criminals hiding behind a badge? Just a guess...do I get a cookie?

Because in their gang, they are issued guns, badges, and immunity...who wouldn't step beyond the boundaries knowing the Blue Wall is going to protect them? This is exactly the reason I never entertained being a cop. I knew I'd be a dirty one.

What do you expect, the guy's a conservative.

cops have always been corrupt and not just in Colorado but in every state and there is no severe punishment for cops when they get caught so I believe the numbers of corrupt cops are growing because of that

Ashleigh Smith

They've always done bad things, just a matter of when they'll be caught.

I think a lot of them have been caught on the wrong side of it because they think they're above the law. Just because you enforce the law doesn't mean you don't have to abide by it.

If he could profit from the situation, $$$ is always a temptation to underpaid police officers, though this guy has some other issues going on.

I grew up around law enforcement...There have always been douchebag cops out there..Unfortunately the numbers keep growing and growing...and unfortunately those dick cops are giving ALL cops a bad name...what's shitty is its the good cops that get shot etc. Instead of the jerkoffs! It's not a matter of they are suddenly on the wrong side of the law...they are just now getting caught!

I say charge every single cop you can to the fullest extent of the law. For every one good cop there is an entire police department that's crooked not a good ratio. Shiny badges don't grant extra rights!!!

... and any Corrupt Cop or Criminal Government Agent should face TWICE the prison sentence that an ordinary citizen would suffer for the same crime.
