Reader: I haven't had decent BBQ in the entire state of Colorado

Last week, a Denver Blogs item highlighted a Cafe Society reader's comment branding the local barbecue scene as "consistently disappointing." The item prompted dozens upon dozens of responses, with some touting particular eateries and others agreeing with the original reader. Here's an example of the latter.

Kelly Hilferty Goldberg writes:

I'm from South Carolina and we take our BBQ VERY seriously. I regretfully haven't had decent BBQ in the entire state of CO. Any recommendations?

It really is. They have some of the best brisket I've ever had.

Rudy's in the Springs has about the best brisket you will ever taste. If you are in Denver though, King's on Harlan in Wheat Ridge is good. Also, Big Hoss, in the Highands, is pretty good.

Georgia Boys BBQ in Longmont or Frederick. Smoked turkey with Carolina mustard or the links with OG sauce.

I'm quite sure I've lived in Colorado longer than you've been alive.

Moe's Original for Alabama-style - my favorite. Or the Rib House in Prospect. I've been reminded I need to try Georgia Boys.

Is Georgia Boys the restaurant Robert Irvine recently overhauled on Restaurant Impossible?

Leah, are you high? Santiago's, Las Delicias, Rubio's, Blue Bonnet, Jose O'Shea's, El Jaliscience...the list goes on and on. Hell, even enchiladas at Chili's are amazing for that matter!

I've seen it here a couple times, but it bears repeating: Georgia Boys in Longmont.

Sons of Scullery BBQ cart! It's better than any BBQ restaurant in Colorado. Their bbq sauce and golden Carolina sauce plus Caribbean chow chow on the smoked brisket is literally the best barbeque sandwich I think I've ever had.

Sons of Scullery BBQ food cart. Hands down best BBQ I've had in Colorado...those guys actually know how to make real barbeque! They are usually set up at 15th abd glenarm in downtown for lunch.

She hasn't been to Three Pitts Again in Silverton, Co. We were just there again 2 weeks ago. The best BBQ I've had, ever, anywhere. My challenge to her - go there then re-write!!

KT's BBQ is pretty Decent, but then again I'm a BBQ snob LOL! Their Pit Beans and homemade mashed potatoes are AWESOME! And don't forget the Key Lime Pie! http://ktsbbq.com/

I've had terrible barbecue in Georgia it's the cooking not the location.

There are many ways to eat bbq, so depending on where you come from and what way you are used to eating it will effect (sp?) your taste. Sometimes homemade is best especially if you like it a specific way. You don't like it then learn how to make it yourself otherwise you can always cry and or complain like a p#$$¥!

The BOB at Yazoo's is worth eating at least once a week, Jabo's is not only great but the owner Jabo is a nice guy, Nordy's up in Loveland has some of the best beans I've ever had, and Smokin' Yards in Idaho Springs is worth the drive up. I've been to South Carolina and the only thing that seperates their BBQ from ours is the sauce.. Which was meh at best. Please leave our state if you don't find any of these acceptable.

No? Lol road house is a chain, do you honestly think they make better food than some southern bell mom with 4 kids. No, they don't.

There is a hidden conspiracy by the Illuminati to keep good BBQ out of Colorado.

If you keep out the good BBQ you also keep out the inbred toothless rednecks that feast on it.

I'm from Colorado and we take our equality very seriously. I regretfully haven't seen the same equality or tolerance of personal choice in the entire state of SC . Work on your social and religious injustices, and once you arrive in 2014, then you can bitch about our BBQ! Until then go home and do what you do best! Condemn people for their religious or non religious beliefs and lifestyle choices from atop your hickory throne on jack stands!
