Reader: I'm still waiting on the first OD from smoking pot

woman.smoking.joint.thinkstock.jpg
A recent Comment of the Day about NORML executive director Allen St. Pierre's advocacy of pot clubs spurred plenty of additional conversation. Here's a post from a reader who thinks concerns about such venues ignore others that he considers to be more dangerous.

Rob Gray writes:

Anyone who argues against this has nothing to stand on when you point out that all night clubs serve people a legal toxin on a nightly basis, causing hundreds of drunk driving deaths per year. Can anyone say the same about weed? I'm still waiting on the first OD from smoking it... still waiting........

Send your story tips to the author, Michael Roberts.

Anti pot readers are overstating the dangers of pot, pro pot readers are understating the dangers.

And then they took a nap and it was all over. They never mention that part.

It would be surprising considering people have been smoking pot all over the world for thousands of years, and have yet to OD. Another case of American exceptionalism, huh?

I do agree, there i absolutely any legal or medical report that has a cause of death as overdosing on THC.

Stop covering the National Organization for the Retention of Marijuana Laws (NORML)!  I just saw another scare story about drivers testing positive for cannabis metabolites, which quoted NORML claiming that THC increases the risk of accidents! To the contrary, modest amounts of THC in blood are correlated with a lower risk of accidents.  NORML is a detriment to efforts to end Prohibition.

Marijuana has benefits and marijuana has negative effects. For some the benefits are great, for others the negative effects are also great. Its neither totally benign nor incredibly harmful. There are some who use it who shouldn't and some who don't use it who should. It should be viewed that way because its not for everyone.

The ER Dr. said on CBS4 last week that he was seeing at least one child a day that had overdosed on edibles and that it could be deadly. He did not have any examples, nor did he indicate the treatment for these OD victims. I think he was a liar and CBS4 just perpetuates the lies.

I'll bite...to OD on smoking pot you would need to smoke an ungodly amount. Like a pound+. Yeah you can "freak" out or have a panic attack, but that's not an OD. You'd go to the hospital for being unable to breath before you ever OD'd.

I would love to overdose and get a good nights sleep. However, it's impossible. I try nightly and still only get about 4 hours sleep.

All of the crap in the media is NS.. People have been smoking for decades and the with the same outcomes. Why is it different cause it's legal? They really have nothing else to write about? Let's talk about why pedophiles. are let out of jail. Who's accountable for that?

Is this all that westword talks about now is pot?! Everyday multiple times a day. I'm pro pot but talk about running a good thing into the ground.

Just to be clear, people OD on THC all the time, usually by ingesting too much via edibles.  However, an OD of THC will not kill ya like an OD of some other things like alcohol, which can kill on an overdose, as we all know.  I think that's what the reader meant to say, that he is still waiting for someone to die of an overdose of THC from smoking cannabis.  Me too, buddy.

@RobertChase

A64 = a CONTINUATION of CRIMINAL PROHIBITION against Marijuana in Colorado ... with MYRIAD new Regulations and MASSIVE new Taxes added for fun!

@RobertChase ... YOU supported and voted for A64, which EXPLICITLY declares in the provisions that "Driving Under the INFLUENCE of Marijuana SHALL REMAIN ILLEGAL" ... while idiotically failing to establish an objective rational limit.

YOU got EXACTLY what you foolishly voted for.
