Ten fittest cities according to American Fitness Institute: Is Denver getting flabbier?

More photos below.
Back in February, we shared a list of America's ten fittest cities as compiled by Sharecare.com -- a roster on which Denver finished first. Now, however, the American Fitness Institute has issued rankings of its own, and while Denver finishes high, it's definitely not number one. Is Denver slipping down the fitness scale? Or is this an example of how results can differ from one study to the next? After all, three cities cited by AFI weren't even mentioned by Sharecare.com, including the top two.

Count down the former's photo-illustrated top ten below, featuring AFI data and list comparisons -- and click here to see the complete (and massive) American Fitness Institute report.

Number 10: Sacramento

Notwithstanding all of the intelligent (cough, cough) posts by the flaming facebookers, it all boils down to two of the  7 deadly sins ---

SLOTH      and     GLUTTONY

Quit feeding your fat face and get some exercise.    (Hint: if you don't get your heart rate up, you are not doing much good.)

Hold on, doesn't Denver have the largest park system out of all the major cities? I blame it on dudes with giant beards....

It's the Midwesterners and Texans dragging us down.

Did they interview people as they left Walmart?

Why does anyONE need to be "blamed" for this? Like it's not a shared experience??? There's just as many fit out of towners as there are fit "natives". Get off your high horses and address the problem instead of assigning blame like a child.

Many of the "natives" from Denver suburbia don't ski, hike, or engage in any physical fitness. They take the mtns for granted, which is understandable. I'd blame them for the increase in obesity, not the transplants.

Talk about a generalization - sounds like a typical ego-native.

You're involved in too many households outside of your own. Pretty creepy.

NATIVE Colorado folks might be more fit, but many of the non-native folks have a hard time adjusting to the altitude and climate here. Many of them get winded walking around the block and cannot go to bed without a humidifier.

denver is getting fatter because more people are immigrating here from less fit states.

The definition of fit differs from one study to the next.

@fishingblues The article mentioned a high number of days with bad mental health.  They were talking about you, fishingrainbow.

I wonder if JJ knows that "outta" is not a word in the English language?

I know a woman that placed in the Pikes Peak Marathon immediately after smoking weed.  I witnessed the two top finishers of a 55 mile long ultra-marathon smoke weed moments before the race they won.  Is weed a performance enhancing drug?

Thanks for doing the math, Fitz Greg. Much appreciated.

@fishingblues Fishingrainbow, obsessing on this sort of minutia is a fine example of the mental health issues the article spoke of you having.
