Reader: Birth control is dangerous and has many potential side effects

hobby.lobby.meme.2.jpg
Our Denver Blogs post about the Supreme Court's birth-control ruling in a case involving Hobby Lobby stores -- a decision our Bree Davies thinks should concern everyone -- got people talking, and plenty of them disagreed about its importance. This reader's take is a memorable example.

Amanda McGregor writes:

"The rights of women everywhere are compromised!!!! Ahhhhh!!!! Hobby Lobby employees can't get free Plan B anymore!!! Next we won't have healthcare at all!" Just fucking stop already! If the Supreme Court had ruled against Hobby Lobby it would have been a war on religion. Everyone can find fault in a decision that they didn't have to make. Be happy that birth control is covered at all for their employees. Be happy that insurance companies can no longer consider having a uterus a preexisting condition. Some much healthcare reform has happened in the last decade, stop acting like women are being denied access to rights. If their employees still want an IUD that badly then they can pay for it. Birth control in general is dangerous and has so many potential side effects. They still cover vasectomies, which are much safer and easier to preform. The argument could be made that Hobby Lobby cares more about women, but fuck it. The reality is that 16 types of birth control being free is totally acceptable and won't crush our society.

When is hobby lobby going to give ALL their money to the poor like Christ commanded.  hobby lobby is at war with religion by making things up about Christianity while ignoring what it demands.

I have a religious belief against killing, you know, like lying us into war.  I guess I don't have to pay for the next republican war for profit.

They only requested an exemption for the forms of birth control that do not prevent conception. IUD's and Plan B do not prevent conception. I am not saying they are right or wrong, just that they have a right to not have to pay to end a pregnancy when they believe it is morally wrong.

Lucas Jamison, you might want to brush up on a little history there. Ask yourself, who did all the hard work in the south and who actually profited from it? Would you call slavery "working together to succeed" in a fair and balanced way? America is undeniably a great nation, but the notion that the people who worked the hardest profited the most is grossly inaccurate. Generally the trend is that the better a person is at exploiting other people, the more likely he or she is to succeed. Hobby Lobby execs are masters at exploitation.

Ok this is silly. For one, hobby lobby isn't the only place in the world you can work. There are millions of other jobs you can apply for if you don't like their beliefs. I don't go to a Christian book store and get upset that I'm an Asian jew and they're forcing their beliefs on me.

If hobby lobby is such a religious based company then why are they open on Sundays? Oh well they are a shitty sorry excuse for a "hobby" store anyways

...birth control is not health care...its not about opening the door...thats BS...if you generalize, you are as bad as the people you are going against...it is a single issue...PERIOD!...there are at least 30 places in the city that give away free condoms...condoms or abstaining are better than birth control...there is no argument to say why birth control should be provided over condoms...if they provided condoms to all their employees would anyone even be saying anything? Close your damn legs and if you want to have sex be responsible, use a condom...BIRTH CONTROL DOES NOT STOP SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE NOR IS IT 100% ACCURATE...be in love, be responsible...sex is not just something to give away to anyone and everyone...NO ONE GIVES ANY KIND OF BIRTH CONTROL TO MEN AND OR REQUIRED TO...and no one is making any kind of deal about that...I know this will have no affect on the fanatics...FYI I am not religious in anyway...its just frustrating people are complaining about someone controlling them but by you telling them what to do aren't you controlling them? and wake up we live in America which is a step away from be socialist...not everyone is equal...not everyone needs a participation ribbon...our country was built on some working harder than others and succeeding because of it...and people working together to succeed...now it is being torn down by "everyone is equal" even if they don't do anything to deserve that equality...How can everyone be equal in an economy such as ours? I am not talking anything about race or gender...I am talking about individuality...not everyone deserves the same thing as the next person, work hard and earn it...thank you

The comment is too short-sided, this issue goes beyond healthcare, women's rights, and abortion. The court is saying a company's religious beliefs are more important than the existing laws as well as more important than the beliefs and needs of it's employees. What if my religion sincerely believes hard work is good for children - is my corporation then exempt from following child labor laws? Or what if my religion believes in service - is my corporation then exempt from paying employees a fair wage?

And none of you statists can even debate anything. If I disagree with you, you mock my sexuality or call me retarded. While I disagree with you, yoy out your fingers over your ears and block out everything I say, so it wont shatter your preconceived idea of freedom is. No debate, just insults and rehashed garbage from the talking heads on your favorite main stream faux news/Msnbc types. Which are owned by the same multi national interests, to have you two authoritarian boot likers screaming to each other about who gets control of your vaginas. Har har har, jokes on you.

No one wants to take personal responsibility for their actions. Instead, its always people want everything for free, and run to government to coddle them like children. Hey, want government out of your life? Stop demanding they rule over your life. Its really not hard to understand.

I love how so many men are commenting on this issue like they know anything about being a women and taking birth control. For those of you stupid enough to think birth control is harmful clearly you don't know science. ( I see more commercials rattling off scary ass side effects just for joint pain due to RA then I hear about side effects of BC.) I  myself am taking a generic from of BC that is 9 dollars a month offered without insurance at King Soopers. It has absolutely no side affects except that it has stopped me from having two periods each month. If I took any other kind it would be 60 bucks with insurance and god knows how much without.   and yes I do know BC does not work well with every women.
