Reader: Chris Christie shouldn't criticize life in Colorado when his state of New Jersey is a toilet

chris.christie.radio.565x300.jpg
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
During a recent visit to Colorado to stump for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez (and raise his national profile in advance of an expected bid for the 2016 presidential nomination), New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defended criticizing Colorado's quality of life following legalization of limited marijuana sales. Our post on the topic inspired plenty of vitriol from readers. Here's an example.

Johnny Zimmerman writes:

He wants to compare quality of life between Colorado, a beautiful mountain state where the air, and environment is actually somewhat clean. And that toilet he calls a state which has the most toxic waste dumps of any state in the US. There is no comparison and only a moron would think otherwise.

I'm from NJ and it's just like Colorado in many ways. It has it's bad areas, good areas and wealthy areas. Lots of farms, ranches and diehard sports fans. It's not a toilet unless you are in one of the bad areas but one can call Denver a toilet if the only place they've been to or heard about is Montbello or Five Points.

Christie came here & critized everything he saw on local TV. He is a liar who should have been kicked out of office for numerous scandals. He can stay out of Colorado & screw up NJ some more.

Quality of life is a relative term. A well off person in New Jersey is better off then a poor person in Colorado but a poor person in Colorado is most likely way better off then a poor person in New Jersey.

I think he get's a lot more police activity on the shore than our cops do from our evil weed he despises. He'll never get to be president with that line of thinking.

I think the reader doesn't know shit about NJ, it's actually mostly farmland if he did any research whatsoever. Ya know, the "Garden State"?? Christie did a lot of good by calling out all the corruption and bs entitlement abuse but hearing his ignorant remarks about Colorado is sad to say the least. Mind your own business and focus on NJ Christie. As for the "Reader", ignorance begets ignorance, you proved that well. Next time you're on the east coast, remember where your freedom began. Oh and enjoy that phone and electricity you use.

Christie needs to examine his own problems before criticizing other states. He is not a paragon of upstanding citizenship or government.

I lived in NJ for 18 years before moving to Colorado to attend UNC, and there is not a chance in hell I would ever move back. Colorado has nicer people, higher quality of living, and is actually affordable. I grew up in a beautiful suburb in NJ and in 4 short years the whole town has went to shit. Businesses are closing, people are moving out and all the middle/high school kids are doing hard drugs like heroine. If he is even nominated to run for president I am leaving the US. He corrupted and destroyed NJ to the point of no return and he would only make life worse for America.

New Mexico was settled with the founding of Santa Fe in 1598 (second oldest American city). The Dutch, Swedes, and Finns were the first European settlers in New Jersey. Bergen, founded in 1660, was New Jersey's first permanent European settlement. I'd say New Mexico is much better and 62 years older (in terms of European settlement) than NJ.

Not defending dirty jerz in any way but Colorado would be a lot less beautiful if it was settled a century sooner like nj was. You have a 100 years to catch up.

The reader was spot on. While he may have expressed his opinion that NJ is a toilet, it is a FACT that NJ has more toxic waste dumps than any other state in the nation. They hold 8.5% of all the superfund dump sites in the nation. That's hardly ignorant. NJ also has the highest percentage of urban population in the US. It has the highest population density in the US. It has the most dense highway system of any state in the US. NJ is the largest chemical producing state in the nation. All of those things leading to less clean air than Colorado.

All of those things together, I've got to agree with the reader. NJ, especially the urban and chemically tainted areas, is a toilet with some bleach water (farmland) in it
