Reader: I'd feel safer in a restaurant if the waitresses and customers had guns

shooters.grill.9news.screen.capture.565x300.jpg
Our post about Shooters Grill in Rifle, which encourages open carry for waitresses and customers alike, prompted a debate about whether such displays of firepower would make diners feel more or less safe. The following comment is an enthusiastic vote in the "more safe" column.

Tommy Shackelford writes:

Didn't anyone even watch this story? Tons of normal people wear their guns in this area, normal people happen to serve you food too. I'd feel so much safer and will make a trip just to show support to them. No idiot flipping out with a gun is gonna even think about entering a place like this, I'd feel safe from idiots. They serve food efficiently, saying just cause they have a gun on their side has nothing to do with it and you are all very welcome to never enter this restaurant -- posts show just how people get on a different bandwagon. This business will do great, cause they figured out how to weed out these anti-gun people.

open-carry Nutters clearly aren't the sharpest tools in the shed

Therein lies the risk--relying on people to be smart.

I'll take a study covered by the Washington Post any day over buzzfeed. And it kinda sounds like some people here are saying that these shootings that weren't similar to Sandy Hook are justifiable or carry less impact? Australia doesn't have this problem. And they haven't since 1996. When the common knee jerk response to what I would call an "epidemic" is to put more guns on the street, tell me how this is productive in reducing the incidents. And please, let's see evidence that supports this theory.

Mass shootings are not as "rare" as they used to be. Killing a bill for background checks and limits in magazine size isn't part of a solution either, Stan.

Hey Matt, nobody with "common sense" is afraid of inanimate objects. The fear is that we never really know about a person and what they're capable of and more of them carrying only adds to this fear. Get it??

I'd feel safer anywhere if mentally ill people where identified and treated.

No I do not agree with the reader. The reader is an idiot. I hope the idiot tips well, doesn't ask for too many drink refills and for god's sake, doesn't pinch the waitress on the rear.

I don't want dinner at the OK coral. Albeit a waitress with a side arm probably makes better tips than one without.

"No idiot flipping out with a gun is gonna even think about entering a place like this, I'd feel safe from idiots." Uhhhh... when does a sane person turn "idiot?" It's the sane person who cracks who becomes the idiot flipping out with a gun.

"Most people that carry do train . . ." Well, but you don't know if *this* gal trains. And yet, you feel safer . . . just by seeing the gun. And why would seeing Fred Phelps make you think of liberals? Because he ran as a "Dem" in Kansas? Everyone knows why he did that . . . he even SAID so in interviews. And no, they are not "strong members" of the Democratic party. Ridiculous.

What everyone who thinks a heavily armed populace is safer seems to forget is that hitting a target in practice is a different story than hitting a target in a high-stress, real crisis situation. The last thing I want is a bunch of wannabe heroes high on adrenaline whipping out their guns and killing more people in the crossfire. Even if you practice in police-type training scenarios with targets popping up randomly, it still doesn't compare to being face to face with a real-life person with a gun.

Bottom line- there have not been 74 school shootings or mass shootings. Idiot. You want to insult people who choose to own guns to protect themselves and all I see is a freedom hating coward who will gladly sacrifice innocents as martyrs if it would help you get your way. Thank God our Founders were not weak pieces of crap like many of you.

Why does it matter if it's a school shooting or not? People are people.

Betel Eli Guese, you didn't provide enough info to make a good guess. But overall the school with more guns would probably have more casualties, even if not from the original shooter. Or are you saying that these crazy homicidal people care about signs? If so, they are not as crazy as the NRA likes to pretend they are.

Keep in mind that those who would allow adopt such a "gun-friendly" policy also tend to also be the most antagonistic against local and state health code requirements, #Freedumb

Matty here is just another in a steady stream of neckbearded basement dwellers who've only recently discovered the "gospel" of the good doctor Ron Paul that is liberTARDianism and somehow believe they have the whole world figured out.

Matt Leising, notice the vast majority of those incidents in the Buzzfeed (they suck) article involve ex-law enforcement and ex-military -- ya know, those who happen to have far more extensive arms training than what is taught at your typical civilian gun range and also have experience in crisis management (not required for typical CC permit holder). Also, the Clackamas County incident was probably bullshit since it was never proven that the purported "hero" actually drew a weapon and really just wanted his 15 minutes of fame. http://www.politifact.com/oregon/statements/2014/feb/12/oregon-citizens-lobby/were-kip-kinkel-and-clackamas-town-center-shooting/ So much for your "citizen hero" narrative. Fail, douchebag.

Ok I have never been trained to use a gun. But I was raised in the Sierra Nevada mountains where mountain lions came down to eat our goats, pigs, cows and horses. I was raised with a gun in my hand and I can hit anything I aim at with almost any time of gun or rifle. Sometimes experience is better than any training

I was there, never saw a person of color and when the cameras were there, no body there neither. They did not seem very accepting

wow im shocked. It must be just tans then. I have a friend who is as black as they get. The other day we talked about that place and he actually stopped in there on a road trip one time. He claimed they where the nicest people he ever met. (and he was waiting for them to look down on him)

Most people that carry do train and learn safty with there sidearm. Yes there are idiots and assholes that get a gun just cause they can. But that is very few. Im not going to consider lyberals as hating asshole biggots just cause fred phelps and his church happen to be strong members of the democratic party. That is a small group out of a larger well educated caring movement.

Not if your smart and holster your gun right with the safty on.

There are 2 schools. SCHOOL ONE: with Armed teachers, SCHOOL TWO: with a sign that says Gun Free zone. 2 shooters both with the same riffle and the same magazine loaded with the same ammo. Enter the schools. 1 to each school. Witch shooter gets further into the school killing more kids? READY SET COMMENT! (oh ya rules. Dont want pollitcal views i want strait answer. Witch one does a better job of causing terror)

Betel Eli Guese

I think we need to fix our statistics. have every buisness that allows guns to post that they allow guns. Have every buisness that is a gun free zone (well thats already posted). Take the crime stats from both. See witch one is safer to be in.

I trust more citizens that i know with guns then I do cops i know with guns. When was the last time some random dude that had a ccw shot someones dog for no reason?

I'm guessing you live in Denver, so let's be real...how often do you drive out to Rifle for breakfast? You can't boycott a place you never go to anyway.

Parker: you need to actually research the shootings on that map yourself. The vast bulk of them are NOT in any way similar to Newton or Columbine. Many, many of them happened after school hours, involved a non-student and/or were suicides.

Absolutely. In a civilized world, we would not have a need for such measures. But according to the latest news reports, we are far from civilized in our world today.
