Hickenlooper leading Beauprez by 6 percent in one poll, behind him by 1 percent in another

John Hickenlooper on his inauguration day.
Those who feel political polls conducted long before an election frequently have very little news value can point to two new pieces of evidence to bolster their argument.

Yesterday, media organizations ballyhooed a poll showing that Governor John Hickenlooper leads Republican challenger Bob Beauprez by a surprisingly large 6 percent margin. Today, they're doing the same in regard to a survey showing Beauprez ahead by 1 percent.

Both of the polls were conducted by well-known and reputable organizations. The first, released on July 15, comes courtesy of Marist Poll, associated with New York's Marist University and NBC News. The second, dated July 16, is by Connecticut's Quinnipiac University.

A screen capture of Bob Beauprez during a recent interview.
Despite being made public just 24 hours apart, the Marist and Quinnipiac polls come to significantly different conclusions. The former maintains that "incumbent Governor Hickenlooper leads his Republican challenger Bob Beauprez, 49% to 43%, including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate." The latter states that "the race for governor is tied, with 43 percent for Democratic incumbent John Hickenlooper and 44 percent for former U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez, the Republican challenger."

There are plenty of other variations between the polls when it comes to demographics, gender and party support, as you'll see when you examine the data for each in documents on view below. As for whether one is more accurate than the other, even the most advanced statistical analysis is unlikely to offer proof. So feel free to believe the one that supports your views -- or don't. Months before ballots are cast, it doesn't matter much either way despite the big headlines.

Here are details about the polls, which contain information about plenty of other races and issues as well.

Are there enough "Sane' people in Co. to elect a Republican Gov. ?

Lol the media, in their infinite wisdom, thinks this gubernatorial race is about the economy. The truth is it'll be the gun law that buries Hickenlooper

Mr. O'REILLY, the president is not surprised - Israel, Mexican guns/border, NSA, IRS, Benghazi, Iraq, Iran, ISIS, Afghanistan, Jobs, Debt - it is part of his plan and things are not going bad for the President, he is winning. You keep talking about Obama's legacy, Bill he has already achieved his legacy - - if you go back to '07 and '08, his commitment to his LEFT was to take America down to a "Third World" level by killing the American way of life, changing over to the "NEW WORLD ORDER". The Obama Doctrine failed PLUS, Obamacare is killing Pass it on, If You Care!

Hickenlooper = Anti-pot, Anti-gun, Anti-American establishment politician.

And neither of these polls bothered to ask about other candidates, like Matthew Hess or Harry Hempy by name, did they? I'm so sick of polls and media biased and only mentioning two candidates.

You two numbnut ninnies (that would be stinky and bobbie) that vote one issue only are hilarious.  You are looking for someone who will bless your smoking fetish:   that would be pole smoking and dope smoking.

When pole smokers smoke dope, only dopes smoke poles.  (That one was for you stinky.)

Jazus, you twinks are stupid!

Beauprez is a second-tier GOP candidate, and if the election was between him and another GOP candidate, he'd lose badly. Expect the same this time around. Are the GOP trolling everyone? What gives? Beauprez is the worst CO Governor candidate in 20 years, easily.

Hey Stoners -- if you think Bob BowPray will have a kinder, gentler more liberal recreational drug policy ... you're dumber than yesterday's dirty bongwater.

So go ahead, keep bashing Chickenchoker and see if you don't once again Reap the Idiocy you have sown.

Tommy, you need to get the crazy voices out of your head...quit listening to fauKKKcult "news."

You blame President Obama for problems caused by the rectumlickum traitors that conspired against America on the very day of Obama's initial inauguration.

Why do rePEDOPHILIcAns hate America?

Do you mean Mike Dunafon?  It is not at all clear that his name will appear on the ballot; no candidate has yet petitioned onto the gubernatorial ballot for the election in November.

Yeah, we need a good American LIBERAL for governor.  Both ways bob isn't that man.  Their yappy little cult campaigns as moderates and govern as fascists.

@DonkeyHotay Yeah, I'm afraid that all those legions of "stoners" lining up to vote for Both Ways Bob exists only in your fevered little troll brain, Donkey.....but as with most of your posts on WW, you do actually have a point, no matter how hidden it may be under layers of fantasy, tortured logic and hyperbolic insult: voting for Beauprez is a fool's choice. Bob's so fucking dumb he can't tie his own shoes or remember what day of week Good Friday falls on.

I would love to know the methodology of that poll that has Bob up by 1%. Who did they call, the members of every retirement community in Weld County and the front offices of Halliburton?

RobertChase

@muhutdafuga  Your post is unresponsive and it insinuates that the only alternative to voting for Hack is to vote for the Fascist (Republican) candidate, which is not true; there will be candidates representing the Green Party and the Libertarian Party on the ballot, there may be other candidates, and voters may refrain from voting if they have no good choice.

@cardboardcowboy Both of you assume that control over our government by the Fascist (Republican) and Collaborationist (Democratic) Party is normal and inevitable; if the United States is to have any future it must not be!  Both these criminal political organizations have repudiated fundamental American principles of freedom, progressively criminalizing the so-called "land of the free" to the point that it is instead the world's leading jailer.  Gov. Hack, whose partisans in the General Assembly congratulate themselves on the having accomplished criminal justice reform, now presides over the largest prison population in Colorado's history.  Coincidentally, Hack, Sen. Steadman, and the General Assembly reinstituted five kinds of felony for cannabis under Colorado's Uniform Controlled Substances Act last year, increasing the maximum severity of offenses involving cannabis to a Class 1 felony for the first time in Colorado's history.  Hack's term in office has seen many firsts; how do you like those?

It is wrong to vote for bad government irrespective of how certain you are that there is only one alternative and it is worse.  There will be at least two other gubernatorial candidates on the ballot; I will likely vote Green, although I have some grave misgivings about elements of their platform.  Just for the sake of argument, suppose Bob were to be elected -- will Colorado suffer for want of the General Assembly being able to pass many laws?  After seeing it and Gov. Hack in action over the past four years, I am inclined to doubt.

@sargesgiftshop @muhutdafuga I was going to show you to be a complete and total idiot, but you already showed what anal leakage you are and always will be.  FauKKKs, the only network to go to court to protect their right to lie and make cultists like yourself even dumber.

@RobertChase @muhutdafuga The governor will be either a Democrat or republicanazi.  I like the Greens but voting for the Green Party is like giving your vote to the republicans.

Good Americans need to take over the Democratic party like the baggies have done with the republiKKKans.

LOL!

RobertChase
RobertChase topcommenter

@muhutdafuga  It is unconscionable to vote for Collaborationists, much less to be a member of their Party -- this is one of the institutions primarily responsible for turning the so-called "land of the free" into the world's leading jailer.  One might as well propose that decent Germans could have turned the Nazis from world conquest and genocide had they joined.

RobertChase

@fishingblues  You are both monumentally ignorant and stupid; that several of the founders had an economic interest in fomenting the Revolution does not mean that this country was founded on capitalism!

@DonkeyHotay @RobertChase Good Americans need to take over the Democratic Party like the baggies have done.  They have brought about a bat shit crazy rectumlickum party.  Surly good Americans can restore good American Liberal thinking to the Democrats.

RobertChase
RobertChase topcommenter

@DonkeyHotay  The Collaborationist Party had already lost any legitimate claim to oppose the Fascists by that time.  It is inarguable that very many Americans voted for the fascist wastrel puppet Bush to be President twice.  Did you mean to insinuate that Beauprez would be as bad a Governor as Bush was a president?

DonkeyHotay
DonkeyHotay topcommenter

@RobertChase ... elect him and find out.

... or more specifically, throw away your vote on an un-electable 3rd party candidate and allow Bob BowPray to capture the Governor's office.

@muhutdafuga  I want to form the Denver Radical Party.  Many Americans would vote Radical, if they had the choice.

RobertChase
RobertChase topcommenter

@DonkeyHotay Did you mean to insinuate that I should vote for Hack?  He drove me to the realization of what function his Party serves.  I registered as a Democrat in 1976, and voted for that Party until 2011; I will never vote for it again.  The Governor did harm as Mayor that promises to waste activists' time into the future; his evasion of the crisis of criminality within DPD through foisting off our present toothless system of oversight of police (the Independent Monitor and Citizen Oversight Board) on voters means that we are actors in a farce he wrote years ago -- we are all little better than spectators as a criminal gang unit and many other cops within the Department commit crimes, accomplice-after-the-fact Mitch Morrissey absolves them of criminal liability, and DPD's Internal Affairs Bureau covers their tracks and absolves them even of poor job-performance.  What Hack did as Mayor should have disqualified him to be dogcatcher, but the People credit him for economic development which was happening anyway.  I am curious how much worse Bob could be, though I will not vote for any member of the Fascist Party, of course.
