Photos: Shooters Grill's waitresses are armed -- and so are a lot of the customers

Back in May, our Melanie Asmar told you about Chipotle's request that customers not bring guns to restaurants in the chain after members of the group Open Carry Texas posed for pics with semi-automatic rifles at one eatery.

We have a feeling these dudes would be welcome at Shooters Grill in Rifle, where open carry is actively encouraged and even the waitresses pack heat -- a move that's turned into a PR bonanza for the modest joint.

The evolution of Shooters' new identity can be traced on its Facebook page. Given the place's name and decor (not to mention its presence in a town called Rifle, on Colorado's Western Slope), there was little doubt the owners were Second Amendment fans. But for most of the year-plus the place has been in business, Facebook posts featured food, not salutes to firearms -- and certainly nothing like this aforementioned Open Carry Texas pic:

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America
But on June 21, shots of triple fudge almond brownie sundaes topped with fresh raspberry sauce were joined by this text:
Do you OPEN CARRY at Shooters??? Do you PRAY over your food at restaurants??

We want to hear from you!

Let us know what you like about us honoring YOUR amendment RIGHTS in the comment section below!

Customers responded enthusiastically. Here's a sampling of replies:
Thank you for welcoming open carry and open prayer. Its a shame we have to seek out places that allow these rights to be exercised openly. Thank you for all that you do!

I open carry everywhere. If a business doesn't like it, they don't get my business.

We ALWAYS PRAY before eating, and carry when we are out. Love what you stand for, hope to eat there sometime soon. THANK YOU.

Then, on June 26, came this photo, accompanied by the caption, "Our customer Katie open carrying tonight! Welcome to Shooters!!! #opencarrycolorado."

No surprise that news outlets began flocking to Shooters after that, including the Summit Daily, whose coverage was seen by at least one diner, as this Facebook pic indicates:

shooters.grill.facebook.2.jpg
Before long, larger outlets were sending reporters to Shooters, too, including 9News and its national affiliate, USA Today.

shooters.grill.facebook.3.jpg
An image from USA Today's coverage of Shooters.
Shooters Grill is looking to capitalize on its newfound notoriety by starting to sell tie-in T-shirts that should be available for order tomorrow.

shooters.grill.facebook.4.jpg
One particularly memorable comment on the T-shirt post reads: "Lauren save me one Granny."

We imagine other restaurants will soon emulate the marketing at Shooters Grill (if they aren't doing so already) -- although the success of the strategy shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, plenty of guys think women with guns are hot.

Send your story tips to the author, Michael Roberts.

F%ck this place.

From the Summit Daily the owner "asked her Christian friends" about the concept. Guess they were too busy reading the Bible to have heard about the Columbine shootings and Aurora theater shooting. Disgusting concept in a state that's had such tragedies.

Hey Sammy, how about instead of going through this thread and replying to everyone's post individually, you do something productive with your time? Instead of sitting and calling people "sheep" or putting them down, you simply understand that individuals have the right to their own opinion. Dave is correct; you're trying to start an argument with people, and that's not what this is for.

Dave Caldwell
Dave Caldwell

What is your point? I didn't say they don't have the right to do it. I simply said, I would turn around and leave if I walked into a restaurant where the waitresses were armed, which is my right as well. It sounds to me like you are trying to start an argument, which is your right.

Fear slips in and takes away liberty daily. Bad things happen in life, that's the price of liberty. Many need a refresher course on what it means to be FREE. NRA stands for what is AMERICAN...nothing more.

The negative comments are from sheep, and you know how sheep have to be herded daily and reminded who is in charge. They want to be taken care of...like most of Denver.

Sammy River

Sheep have small minds and have to be herded daily, they are mindless creatures that wander around waiting for instructions. They taste great though, so they serve some purpose.

We are a sick country. What's the infatuation with guns all about? I hunt, but the fetish so many people have over brandishing hand guns in public is bizzare!

Is this place sponsored by FOX News? Gimmick or not, (Many don't understand gimmicks. They still take them seriously.) all this does is feed into the increasing paranoia that we are in increasing danger of random shooters anywhere we go anymore. The fact is more and more people are working themselves up into a lather thinking the President is going to take away our guns, the Middle East is going to come over and attack us and this nation is trying to take down Jesus. Pull your heads out of your asses, folks. Quite listening to the hype. Things happen but stop being a lemming. This is not a violent third world state. But shit like this brings us another step toward it.

I would feel 100% safe eating here with my family. The more liberal a place gets, the more dangerous it usually becomes. See: Our Schools. Gun-Free-Zone = LibTard Freak Magnet.

Here is something else to perpetuate.  Just use that little pea sized brain....if you right wing nuts are accidentally shooting yourselves in your genitals, there are bullets flying in directions that are not under the right wing gun freak's control.

This right wing gun freak shoots his little pecker, the next one shoots a child by accident.

Karma? At Least 5 Ammosexuals Have Shot off Their Junk Since 2010

Despite what you see in movies, placing a loaded weapon in the front of your pants and aiming at your twig and berries is not a good idea. Accidental discharges of a different nature are too high of a risk. Yet, people hoping to imitate their favorite actors continue to place their weapons in their waistline. Since 2010, at least five of these ammosexuals have ensured their gene pool ends at them.
1. September 2012: Michael Smeriglio, while cleaning his pistol. The 18-year old Floridian shot a bullet through his penis and left testicle while he was attempting to clean a gun he bought at a party the month prior.

Michael Smeriglio.

2. July 2012: Tavares Colbert, while testing out a firearm. Colbert, 36, was charged with illegal firearms possession after he admitted to the cops that he had intentions to sell the gun to another man outside a 7-Eleven in Oklahoma. On the way to make the sale, Colbert tested the gun in the car and shot himself in the nads.

3. August 2011: Joshua Seto, walking into store with girlfriend. 27-year old Seto was walking into a store with his girlfriend in Chandler, Arizona, when a pink pistol went off in his pants. Putz.

4. May 2010: Unidentified man, shopping at Lowe's. A lone shopper blew away his testicles on a Sunday afternoon while walking the aisles at Lowe's Home Improvement in Washington state. The gun was kept not-so-safely in his waistband.
5. March 2010: Unidentified teenager, walking into medical center. A 17-year old in Vallejo, California, was spotted holding his wounded crotch while walking into the emergency room. At the time of the report, the kid didn't tell anyone what happened.
Prior to the guns discharging, these men all had one thing in common--the NRA considered them "good guys with guns." Owning a gun in America is far too easy. At the very least, gun owners should be required to undergo training sessions to learn the do's and don'ts of handling a gun. One would think pointing a loaded gun at their manhood would spark some inner-instinct that says, "This will not end well." Unfortunately for these men, that did not happen.
