Aurora doesn't always get a lot of respect, even from folks who live elsewhere in Colorado. But the folks at Movoto aim to amend this oversight via a post highlighting the ten things only people from Aurora understand. The result is intended to change doubters' minds even as it reminds Aurorans why they call the community home.

Below, count down the top ten, supplemented with photos and excerpts from Movoto text. To see the original item, click here.

Number 10: You Know Aurora Is Colorado's Best Kept Secret

Aurora has long since been considered a suburb of Denver. And depending on who you ask, it doesn't always have the best reputation. Sure, Aurora is in close proximity to Denver, which is a much bigger city. It doesn't have the pro sports teams and the museums like Denver does, but the unique culture and community Aurora does have, Denver can't touch strictly because of its size. And that's what makes it so great....

Number 9: Kids Come To Aurora To Show Off Their Skills

The Aurora Sports Park is a really big deal here in town. People come from all over to enter their kids in regional and national tournaments and competitions or even just to observe the games at this impressive complex. On 220 acres, it's got 12 baseball/softball fields, 23 soccer and multi-use fields, and hosts competitions for a variety of other sports including lacrosse, rugby, cross country and more....

Wow a whole list of things....... Kinda pointless things to be proud of.... Except for science fiction land, that looks awesome!!!.... But wait it actually does not exist so we are back to zero. I mean really. Even the largest ball of string has more draw to it than anything on that list.

13) downtown Denver hotels are scared of the new world class hotel and conference center being built in aurora. This will put aurora on the world map capable of handling the largest of conventions that now slip Denver! Aurora is going to be adding thousands and thousands of jobs.

Number 11: Not trying to be mean, but I believe this is true. Aurora has more white people that listen to rap music than in any other city in Colorado. Number 12: Aurora has 3 reservoirs in which you can locally fish, boat, camp swim, excercise, or just have a picnic at, Aurora Reservoir, Cherry Creek Reservoir and Quincy Reservoir. Denver is only .7 miles larger than Aurora and Aurora has room to grow, so it could actually become a larger city than Denver at some point. I am a Colorado native and have lived in Aurora since 1972. Plus I was able to buy a good sized home in the Cherry Creek School District for what would have cost me $4-500,000 in Denver and I am only 15 minutes drive from work. We just need a good live band location, in which I blame the city government for that. Oh... almost forgot. We have ALOT of churches in Aurora and that has something to do with the way the city government and counsel operates.

Put the entire article on the same page. The bouncy links to "Next page" skipped almost every other entry.

For all the people judging... please don't migrate this way when downtown becomes even more of any overcrowded, over-priced, cesspool of annoying transplants than it already is. Thanks!

I know I'm paying less money for a bigger, nicer apartment than the one I lived in downtown. Oh, I've never been mugged.

Nice list. When I lived in Colorado I lived in Aurora and that's where I stay when I come back to visit. I think its a great city with a great location. True its not Mayberry but that's fine with me. There has been some gentrification going on and if it wasn't for the street signs I wouldn't have even noticed my old neighborhood.

Do people claim to be from Aurora? You think they'd just say Denver...

I lived in South Aurora for nearly 3 years and never had a problem with it. The city has a bad wrap. Like most others have stated, there are good and bad parts to every city. I also lived in Denver for 2 years prior to moving to Aurora and Denver was worse. I am however extremely happy that I left the front range and made it out to the western slope. Enjoy your over priced real estate and traffic jams guys.

These are all stretches, and literally Buckley AFB where 98% can't go and if you can you have to worry about being run down by retirees trying to get to the commissary or pharmacy before it closes 5 hours later is the number 1? Growth has killed the front range turning it into an overpriced and overpopulated area where even bungalows in Aurora are over $200k. I'm hoping to find a job in the Midwest or Texas where you can buy a lakefront house for $150-200k and not have to stand in line to get breakfast at a restaurant

If you don't live here you shouldn't judge in a negative way. We've lived here 34 years and love it. so many beautiful parks, rec centers are the best, and great shopping new Southlands and The Gardens on Havana. U. of C Medical Center is the best along with Children's Hospital.

I lived in Aurora and loved it. It is easy to understand why it has such a bad reputation, but there is good and bad everywhere. Aurora is a beautiful, fun city to live in.

If diversity is something you like to talk about but don't really want to live, then Aurora isn't for you.  I like it.  And every town has its undesirable area, at least all the suburbs of Denver do, so that isn't an issue if you know when to be where and when not.  For instance, I'm always out of LoDo before 11pm.  The one thing Aurora may have a shortage of is stuffed-shirt snobs - what a shame!

Its not cheap anymore. The cost of every thing is through the roof.

11) the Aurora Mall is a good place to go to get shot. 12) people who can't afford to live in Denver live in Aurora. 13) property values always on the decline in Aurora (Newark West). What more do ya need?

I never thought about most of the things on this list Kristin Hnat and MacKenzie Bearley! Nice to hear some positive things about Aurora. I thought it was a pretty good place to grow up, no complaints ☺

I just recently moved to a neighborhood near Gateway High School. So far it's been very nice - friendly neighbors and a quiet area. The location is awesome; 225 is just up the street and once lightrail is complete it should improve the area even more. The mall is up the street and I'm close to a lot of pretty nice shopping centers. John is right the houses there are pretty affordable but I think that's a good thing.

Stood at a Gaylord Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando. It was very impressive.

Most of these are because the land is so cheap in Aurora. It's the only place in the Metro area still affordable because it's in AURORA. Everything east of Colorado Blvd. may as well be Kansas as far as I am concerned. To each their own.

Let's not forget job growth. Anshutz Medical Center! Gaylord Hotel and Conference center coming! Tree City USA! You really are from Aurora if you remember when Wolfs was the place for steaks!
