The late night/early morning violence in Denver this summer shows no signs of ebbing, with multiple life-threatening acts taking place after the sun set yesterday. Among the most shocking: the shooting of a cyclist in an alley near 31st and Stout. Here's what we know thus far.

The basics of the incident are summed up in this post-midnight tweet from the Denver Police Department:

Details about the victim come courtesy of 9News, which reports that just prior to 11 p.m., a man was riding a bicycle in an alleyway near the intersection when he was hit by gunfire in what's described as a drive-by shooting.

Upon their arrival, officers found the man prone on the ground with wounds to his arms and legs.

Fortunately, help appears to have arrived in time, and the victim is expected to survive. Meanwhile, witnesses saw a dark-colored sedan speeding away from the scene. Beyond that, the person who pulled the trigger is a mystery at this writing.

could easily be a jackass cyclist spouting off to the wrong person after riding in the middle of the street like an asshole.

I think all large cities have this problem. We have our fair share of this in Seattle too. Depressing sometimes. I definitely need to stop watching the news!

I occasionally have to drive through the alleys in that area. People are openly doing all kinds of drugs. Usually in the later afternoon. They just lay their "equipment" out on top of the garbage can lids and go to work preparing whatever it is. Even during the Rockies games, users are in the alleys a block off Coors Field. Wonder how much the drug use is costing the city of Denver. Just a "ball park" figure?

It's called 'cheap liquor'. People get drunk on this crappy liquor filled with sugars on top of all the alcohol and it turns them into violent drunks.

@GuestWho ... it's almost 11 pm, go take a ride / walk down the exact alley -- go ahead -- and report back what you see.

Do it!
