Reader: Feds Have Turned Pot Shops Into a Target for Idiots

When we shared William Breathes's post about David Lopez's alleged armed robbery of a marijuana dispensary in Pueblo, we asked why criminals continue to target such shops, which are among the most security-heavy businesses in the state. We collected a slew of theories, with the following one being among the most provocative.

Los C Denver writes:

Because the state/federal banking system has created an issue where the shops have a shit ton of cash sitting in them because they're not allowed to bank anywhere just yet...so idiots like this David Lopez guy think they're gonna make a big score. But really him and anyone like him just gets arrested and then the news can turn around and say look at all this crime caused by marijuana...it's all crap, it's all a trap.

The Feds are just doing as their told. Gathering as much information on people as they can.

Interesting theory. It is messed up how there are now piles of cash lying around in these stores because of the banking situation, but I have to wonder, first of all, how frequent do robberies occur of this sort, and second, I suppose it is possible the stores could be taken, so I'm not sure how feds could say people will definitely rob these stores (on a side note, haven't crime rates gone down since marijuana has been legalised? How could it be making for more crime (also noting that people are getting busted, rather than stores getting money stolen)).

Cannabis stores are taking credit cards now, isn't the cash only thing over?

When liquor stores get robbed nobody talks about how dangerous the liquor industry is

So... This sounds like Bullshit. Why would they leave more than a day's worth of cash in the dispensary. Couldn't they take it home and put it in a safe? Or buy a safe for the dispensary. When mmj robberies even approach the number of liquor stores or convenience stores getting robbed it would still be a bit of a reach to say it makes the industry look dangerous.

This could be fixed easily if Colorado would take the imitative to create a state-chartered bank similar to the Bank of North Dakota.

Maybe the ones you go to, but I have not seen an MMC that accepts cards. Most have on site ATM's.

What shops accept plastic?
