Reader: Does the Government Believe All Marijuana Users Belong in Cages?

We got a wide range of responses to our post about "Don't Be a Lab Rat," a new anti-pot campaign aimed at teens and featuring giant rat-cage installations to be placed at various locations around the city. This reader saw the cages in a way that presumably the folks behind the concept didn't intend.

GuestWho writes:

Children should not use marijuana recreationally, however, why is the government continuing to spend tax dollars on associating marijuana users with cages?.... Is it because they still think that's where marijuana users belong?

Absolutely; the cages are a barely sublimated statement of the Establishment's intent to keep putting people in cages for cannabis -- the re-institution of five kinds of felony for cannabis last year and the making of it up to a Class 1 felony in severity are proof positive of that.

"Does the government think all marijuana users belong in cages?" That's a silly question. The campaign is blatantly targeting teenagers about the potential dangers of using marijuana as their brains are developing.

Marijuana is proven to be bad for developing minds - so I'm okay with campaigns similar to what we see for cigarettes. I mean god, tokers are way to sensitive

Amituofo. If the government "took pot." They d think about allll the bad things they have done. Then they may change or jump off a cliff. In reality the only thing our "representatives" exhale are verbal sugar pills poisoning the people's patience. Whether it is legal or not, even if i didnt live here i 'd burn... I wish from the bottom of my heart that the government would give up on smashing cannabis, leave it alone. One day the people will have voice again.

The government sure likes to spend that green leaf money and they repay the contributors by shaming them & referring to them as lab rats!! Foul!

So first they say how much money Cannabis has brought in, 25 million in Sales for Colorado in June alone!. Then I'm assuming they used there cut of the money or possible other tax revenue to build these ridiculous things all over as an anti-pot campaign. Keep in mind this was a 2 million dollar campaign. Not drugs in general..specifically pot. It "MAY" effect your development is the "SCARE TACTIC" there going for!?!? Are you kidding me!? In the U.S. we have families with there children as young as 7 working on tobacco farms, spending there days/lives sick and constant exposure resulting in poor health and death. These illnesses "WILL" effect them no "MAY" in it (Funny how we never saw one of those videos for all the anti-smoking videos we have). My point being, that money obviously could be used in a much more resourceful way then giant cages...All this does is make the government look stupid for wasting money on something so useless.....

Insulting? No, unless you're easily offended.* Ineffective? Yes. This campaign will influence a handful of people at best. ------------ *Get over it. Instead of getting offended, consider for a moment the type of people who came up with this campaign. Do they really matter to you?

Repugnant creatures using money we gave them to control the youth. I.S. is making their kids strong and full of pride. America is doing the opposite. Tricking in to doing and believing things that are not in their best interest. Cannabis is great for ALL!

These are incredibly insulting scare tactic ads. Referencing meritless "studies" while we continue to pump the country full of pharmaceuticals that DO have actual proven terrible side effects. And of course, the KNOWN killers alcohol and tobacco? Sure, lets keep selling those, no problem! Progress takes time, and there is still lot of ignorance to overcome.
