Reader: Pot Profilers in Nebraska Don't Need a Reason to Pull Over Colorado Cars

nebraska.highway.checkpoint.565x300.jpg
A Nebraska highway checkpoint.
In our post about the arrest of two Coloradans in Nebraska for transporting 99.6 pounds of marijuana, we noted previous reports about pot profiling in which folks driving cars with Colorado plates were pulled over for extremely minor infractions. In response, one reader tells the tale of a traffic stop with even less of a pretext.

Joe Cherry writes:

My wife's friend just got pulled over. A mile across the border she got pulled over by a dick cop. She asked why he pulled her over and he was like, uh speeding, and she said, really how fast was I going? (She had cruise set) and he said well you know why I pulled you over and she was like no why. Well do you have any drugs in the car? And she was like no. He said then can I search? She said yea as soon as you get a warrant.

What a couple of Douchebags, as 99 pounds of POT would've been SO MUCH $$$ - that renting a Car in Colorado - without Colorado Plates - would've been what a Non-Dumbocrap would've done!!! But Intelligent Conservatives don't run Dope, because they're not Criminal Dumbocraps !!!

You might want to check federal laws once again, Don.

It isn't just "legal." It's 100% non-quotes LEGAL. Which it will be everywhere soon enough. And then none of this will happen.

311..omg didn't know they are from Nebraska... that explains everything.. that band is terrible. Otherwise.. I'm all for better living and those nice things you spoke about. But we got more of it here. Still no thanks to a state which has cops thinking everyone from Colorado is a criminal.

I lived in Lincoln for eight long years. It sucked. That is all.

The pigs are to dumb to catch any real criminals. I think they watch to much T.V. Profiling is stereotyping. Remember all stereotypes are criminals. According to any pig!

DO NOT TRAVEL THROUGH NEBRASKA! I repeat! DO NOT TRAVEL THROUGH NEBRASKA. They are making a killing off of profiling people and writing tickets for anything along I-80. They will say you smell like weed and proceed to search your shit

Hope its not true! That would piss me off! Definitely going to really hide my bud good when traveling!

Can we start a fundraiser to raise money for cars outfitted with cameras and Colorado plates and expose the dirty cops who are profiling??

I grew up in Lincoln and had a great time, so did most of the people I knew there. I live in Denver and love it here too. Both places have different, yet very positive qualities.

If people really knew what they're were doing, they would know that they have a better chance of finding cannabis with the citizens of Nebraska coming from CO rather than the actual citizens of CO, those are the fuckheads ruining everything. People come from all over the country to CO to buy legal weed and edibles to take home for keeps or to sell, then act like the legalization is a horrible idea.

Also, if you ever get pulled over now, ALWAYS RECORD THE POLICE! It's within your constitutional rights to do so! This will help you against profiling cops in these states. Be respectful and let them know you are recording everything!

Yet another reason not to drive through there on the way to something better, if there is anything better then CO that way, highly! Unlikely!!

Nothing in Nebraska - drive through a couple.times and the landscape never changed the whole time. They do love their Cornhuskers though.

Whatever happened to 4th Amendment rights?? It's JUST as important as the 'sacred' 2nd!!

Have you been there? Obviously not. Omaha was rated #1 last year for local music scene, birthing many bands such as The Faint, Bright Eyes, 311, and more. Lincoln was rated top 10 for most beautiful downtown areas along with being incredibly bicycle friendly and the fact that it promotes locally grown produce, providing many public farming and gardening areas. If you stick to the western part of Nebraska, yes, there are a lot of farms, conservative families and open plains. But no worse than every other city/town in Colorado, excluding, of course, Denver, Ft. Collins, Boulder and the mountains.

It's called "profiling". Isn't that suppose to be illegal?

Steven M Palmer

The real irony of all this? NONE of it would happen if you didn't make pot "legal" in CO.

It's happening every where though to. Even in Arkansas the homeland security drug enforcement task force pulled is over and played dumb, said we had a broken windshield... 20 minutes later I said "did you notice the windshield isn't broken?" After that they let us roll but it's a sick world out there. I was flagged because I was from CO. Just be safe no matter where you go. Same thing started in CA years before this. Hopefully it will fade

Their f'ing horrible! Never let them search. Take the ticket and flood the courts. You will win but get tied up in court. NE has their panties in a bunch begging for resources non stop to end the flow from CO. Yet this unconstitutional profiling is bs. And they some how have the means to do it so they need to stop complaining and legalize it themselves. I Live CO and visit my child in NE. It's much easier if you have NE plates but I won't give up my CO status! Be safe out there

Who the fuck wants to go there anyways?! yuk! I'll stay in Denver..thanx

I just drove through Nebraska with my girlfriend and her parents this weekend to get to Iowa for a family reunion. We decided I wouldn't drive considering, of the four of us, i looked more like a pot smoker than anyone else. Regardless, I didn't see but maybe four cops the entire time and had no hassle.

Know ur rights before you leave. Perhaps someone shud put up a warning anti-NE billboard. Might gain their attention that they might be loosing tourist revenue. I avoided Lake McConaughy this summer and Cabelas. Now that we have 2 i may never go back to NE. For those headin east KS is probably worse too

Yes they do, you still to have probable cause ya fuckstick. Being from Colorado alone is not enough for probable cause. There's a reason I left my home town of Omaha Nebraska. It's because of ignorant ass statements like this and many others. The state as a whole is a piece of shit with nothing to do and shitty weather for 46weeks out of the year. They shove Cornhusker football down your throat when your born because they realize if they don't by the time you're able to have your own thoughts you'll realize how much of shitty place you live in.

It still makes me laugh they want money from Colorado to support this activity. Imagine what they could do otherwise.

Not in the conservative world of red states.  The only part of the Constitution they care about in Gooberville is the 2nd amendment, and even then, they hare the "well regulated" mandate as much as they hate America.

Sorry, but- I grew up in Lincoln. I lived there for 25 years. Strip malls are replacing the interesting old architecture due to greedy and assholic property owners (the guy who owns Raceland, actually) overzealous and entirely un-effective police, moronic jocks getting away with whatever they want under the protection of the local stasi known as UNL, mindless construction goings on as a result of hugely corrupt construction vendors and town council members, and a city council that are completely out of touch with what the public actually needs (a council member moved to eradicate an entire busline- one that seniors take more than any other busline in Lincoln, based on one mid-afternoon trip on said bus) Lincoln is composed of primarily blue-blooded old money, and mindless entitled college students from smaller towns all acting like theyre in NYC or something. A dead and very closed minded "music scene", and there is literally nothing to do but bars bars bars bars, restaurants, and movie theaters everywhere. There are no jobs or decent employment opportunities that actually pay worth a crap-- unless youre interested  the service industry or agriculture. Downtown is sadly dead due to bullshit council rules and overly priced rental problems-- therefore its nothing but out of state corporate chain places. In trying to "keep up with the times"-- lame outdoor malls permeate the outskirts of town. Lincoln sucks, and the only reason why I ever go back is to see my mom & sisters. I hated it growing up there, I hate it now (been in Denver 20 years), and I will *always* dislike Lincoln in all of it football garbage, boring, depressing and outrageously humid bleakness. The state patrol are wildly hypocritical with the colorado weed "problem" as they allow illegal liquor sales across the state line from white clay. Nebraska sucks. Period.

yeah, its allllll our fault, right? It certainly has nothing to do with Nebraska still living in the stone age.

^as someone who grew up in Nebraska (Lincoln) myself, I can say that this man SPEAKS THE TRUTH. As a result of living there, I have a passionate hatred for football and the midwest as a whole.
