Jimmy Curtis writes:

I'm a security guard. I would not have attempted to detain a drunk guy for pissing on a dumpster. Ain't nobody got time for that. But I would shoot someone that points a weapon at me or anyone else. This kind of scenario is one of my worst nightmares. I don't envy the guard who has to live with the weight of killing a guy....especially when it could have been prevented.

i just want to say you all think you know what you would do, but the fact is the security guard pulled a gun on men who just wanted to go home! This guy had pulled a gun on many of the residents before this incident happen just a scare tactic to intimidate people(there are witnesses). The security guard never called the cops until after he shot David! He never declared he had a gun(even though it was drawn before David went into his home, there are witnesses). Plus there are stray bullets! If he wanted to call self defense why didnt he just shoot my brother?! The fact is this guy was a trigger happy dirty harry! #justicefordavidludewig

Just observe and report,it's not your stuff, do you think the owner of it cares if you die protecting it?

Lesson were tonight as kids don't point guns at others. Regard less of airsolf water toy or otherwise if the rolls were reversed what would the family be saying then. A very unfortunate event that several people have to live with

If I pointed a gun at someone it would be real and I'd shoot them.

People are too afraid of each other to give guns up

Arent you kind of doing the same thing? You admit the investigation isn't over yet but have already come to some conclusions on your own. Sad story all around but I wouldn't expect that the guard will be charged.

Relatives & friends of killers always say never believe their son or friend would ever do something like that! Give me a break!

Jenni, the Denver Post reported that David raised the airsoft gun at the officer and made a comment along the lines of "how do you like a gun pointed at you?" If he said this, he knew the guard had a gun. Are you saying this was never said by the deceased? I am sorry for the loss of your friend.

A tragic situation but the guard will be cleared. The Post reported his cousin (or whoever he was with that night) said David pointed the gun at the officer and made a comment like "how do you like a gun pointed at you?" the guard retreated and fired. The way this ended is not surprising but David Ludewig ultimately brought about his own demise.

Yes........fuck that kid who died........close enough to go inside for the gun but pissed outside.......aswell he escalated the situation. Unfortunately Trayvon Martian made people respect security even less

Enough said, makes sense. Officers are trained to stop the threat, even if that means shooting more than one round. Not rocket science.

All i have to say is he shouldve stayed inside and a tragic death coulve been prevented

Hey, children, never pretend to point a pretend gun, at a pretend police officer, because of real life losses.

Someone losing their life in that progression of events is terrible. Lets all learn from this.

Finding out that a friend has died from the news is gut wrenching. Finding out that people are finding entertainment in arguing whether or not he "deserved" it is sickening. David was a good man and deserves more than being remembered this way.

for real though. who points a fake gun at someone in charge of security?

I, also, have worked a number of security details.  ANY time you confront someone it has the potential to escalate.  Some guys just aren't right for the job.  Sure, if someone points a gun at you, you stop the threat, that's a given, but why did this escalate to that point?  We do not have all the facts, but from what I've been hearing a security guard went out of his way to berate and threaten a drunk guy taking a whiz behind a dumpster who was actually a resident rather than a transient or burglar.  You need to try to maintain an amicable relationship with residents, as you'll be seeing them over and over again, and if you're a dick they'll remember you and complain about you to others.  Guy whizzing on a dumpster is no big deal, and it is foolish to overreact to that.  Apparently he may have even pointed his gun at him at that point, as the deceased was so angry he went to his apartment and instead of staying inside emerged with an Airsoft gun and asked the guard "how do you like having a gun pointed at you," which was a real bad decision on his part.  Sure, the shooting was justified, but it should never have escalated to that point.  This job is not for everyone, you need some maturity and common sense.

He should have had a real gun and shot and killed the armed guard, then claimed fear made him do it.

He who shoots and kills first wins!

I would have done the same thing in that situation. The guard reacted the best way with the information he had. I'm sorry that the guy died, and now this guard will live with his death forever knowing after the fact it was just a toy. That being said don't point toys at people, you may point it at the wrong person. Rip, condolences to the family. :-(

Sounds like a tale of two idiots. Unfortunately one is dead and the others life will never be the same. Stupid is as stupid does.

I reccomend stop trolling the story and mourn your friend.

Jenni I certainly wouldn't have grabbed a fake gun that looks real and threatin him. I would have called the cops. Or I would have woke up wifey had her record the confrontation. But never woyld I have been so stupid as to pull a fake piece. Security guard or not.

You can be as mad as you want at everyone, but that won't bring him back. He shouldn't have done what he did, end of story. Stop jumping down everyone's throats for voicing their opinions. If the tables were turned I'm willing to bet you would feel the same way everyone else is feeling about the situation

MattandKayla Yeaman

Jenni, his other family and friends are claiming he did know the security officer had a gun and he still pulled it "to defend his family"...what is the real story here? See why no one believes the side that the family keeps telling? Because it hasn't once stayed consistent, unlike the story the media has told... especially after the family tampered with evidence.

You're telling me, if your kids and wife were asleep in a new apartment and some brand new security guard wouldn't leave your door step threatening only mase, not making it clear he was armed with a gun, you wouldn't have done anything? Pft give me a break.

Jenni Mcmanis
Jenni Mcmanis

He didn't know the guard had a gun and if he did he would have acted the way he did, your talking shot about someone's dead family member have some fucking respect you piece of shit

Jenni Mcmanis

He's not an idiot you fuckig ass hole he was defending the 5 children asleep in his house when the guard wouldn't leave.

Gun shots hurt pretty bad , he coulda taken a knee out and he probably would have dropped the gun . A security guard has little training I'm sure. But I bet he feels pretty bad at this point

Mike Martin
Mike Martin

How do we know he wasn't trained? Most Armed security guards are ex military or active duty police

Mike Martin
Mike Martin

Wounded people shoot back. You are trained to shoot to kill, and keep shooting until the threat is gone. If the kid was still standing and pointing the weapon you keep shooting.

Mike Martin
Mike Martin

It was sad that the kid got shot. but he didnt get shot for peeing on a dumpster he got shot for pulling a gun on the guy. I would have shot him also. I am trained to use a weapon and you keep shooting as long as there is a threat. If the poor kid was still standing and pointing the gun unfortunately you keep shooting until he is down. I dont have the whole story, I dont need it. Many security guards are Ex Military or even active duty police trying to make an extra buck and are highly qualified to carry.

Josh Weakland
Josh Weakland

Sorry for your loss. Should've been prevented at a number of points. Many poor decisions were made

Josh Weakland

Jenni Mcmanis if he was scarred for his family. Should've called authorities.

Jenni Mcmanis
Jenni Mcmanis

If he acted appropriately why did he stalk them all the way to their place if they were paying rent there. Was it appropriate to stand on their door step and harass a family who he is supposed to be protecting? Is it appropriate that he gave absolutely no warning about being armed. He murdered my best friend, and a family's youngest member and then called to cops whole he was laying there dying, is that appropriate? 5 children had to be awoken and watch him die. Man yea so appropriate of the "security guard"

Valerie Cates
Valerie Cates

I can understand the security guard's fear. I really, really can. But sometimes fear can cripple us and make us make bad choices so I hope that this man understands that having a weapon like a gun is a seriously great responsibility.

Republicans? Oh you mean like the ones that run Chicago? Oh wait those are liberal democrats. Oh what about Detroit, no. New Orleans? Baltimore? In fact the cities with the highest gun crime rates are all run by liberal Democrats who have enacted strict gun control laws.

He doesn't want them to be pointed at him I don't blame you

Jenni Mcmanis
Jenni Mcmanis

He didn't know the guard was armed. It sucks cause you guys only get the insides media bull shit, this story is going out not in support for the guard and once the investigation is over you will all see how much in the wrong he was

Sean Anthony

I don't think I should encounter people who wave weapons at me while I am trying to keep them from urinating on the world. That's just messed up.

Sean Anthony
Sean Anthony

This is terrifying. I am a Security Officer (UNARMED, thank you) and this is the exact kind of nightmare scenario that keeps you overly cautious. I have a family, I want to return home to them. NO ONE should have a weapon pointed at them, especially in the commission of their Job. Not Security, not Cops, NO ONE. Have a little damned respect and don't brandish weapons *of any kind* and you have a slimmer chance of being shot.

Jenni Mcmanis
Jenni Mcmanis

What about protecting your home. There were 5 children in the apartment where they paid rent and this "guard" who was brand new, wouldn't leave their doorstep nor would he call real authority after being told to do so... Don't people have a right to protect where they live. If the guard gave out a warning of being armed, David wouldn't be dead.
