Update: Earlier this morning, we posted an update about a SWAT team standoff in Keenesburg that ended tragically. Turns out a similar standoff was in the past of another person at the center of a Tuesday post: Adrian Chavez, 22, the accused owner of a gun a five-year-old used to shoot a Pueblo toddler. See our previous coverage below.

Continue for photos and additional details about Chavez's previous run-in with the law, which began with an alleged home invasion also involving his mom.

Chavez's Facebook page lists his status as single, but there are plenty of photos featuring children that may or may not include those involved in the shooting. In that incident, a nine-year-old reportedly found Chavez's gun unattended and manipulated it into a shooting position before giving it to a younger child, age five. The latter then shot a three-year-old girl, who survived a shot to the chest. At last report, she was in critical but stable condition.

Also spotlighted on Chavez's page are portraits like this one....

The reason? It's a booking photo of Chavez from April 2012, when he and three others were taken into custody after a high-profile bust.

According to a contemporary report in the Pueblo Chieftain, Chavez was among a group that invaded a home on the 1000 block of East Abriendo Avenue. There, members were said to have threatened the homeowner with a bat, hit him with a rock and assaulted him and his girlfriend.

Afterward, the suspects reportedly fled to another house, located at 2531 West 29th Street. Police tipped by the Abriendo Avenue homeowners showed up there early on April 16, and when Chavez and company didn't come out willingly, a SWAT team was dispatched and neighbors in the immediate area were evacuated due to concerns that the occupants were armed and dangerous. A police spokesman told the Chieftain the Chavezes had a "weapons history."

What followed was a standoff that lasted for the better part of seven hours. Finally, around 9 a.m., police were able to make contact with someone inside, and around twenty minutes later, nine adults and one juvenile exited the home voluntarily.

Chavez, then twenty, was promptly cuffed and booked along with his mom, Yvonne Chavez, plus Charles Chavez and Jeffrey Trujillo. KOAA-TV reveals that Adrian was eventually charged with felony first-degree burglary and misdemeanor assault. He pleaded guilty to the assault beef, receiving three years' probation and 100 hours of community service in exchange.

However, Chavez failed to show up for a court date earlier this year, resulting in his probation being revoked in May. Additionally, an arrest warrant was issued in his name -- which is likely why he split after the shooting rather than sticking around to deal with police. He was found and arrested a few hours later.

Here's another mug shot of Chavez, followed by our previous coverage.

The mom needs to be sterilized and her children need to be taken away from her. What in the world was she thinking, having a boyfriend with such a violent and criminal history? She is absolutely unfit to even care for a gold fish. The owner of the gun should be charged with attempted murder at least. Mom should be charged not only with child abuse/neglect, but as a participant in an attempted murder. The children who handled the gun need long-term psychiatric care. What a horribly sad world we live in. So full of violence and greed. Greed for power, and therefore guns. As for the video game, I doubt the children "learned" how to use the gun from the game. More reasonable an explanation is the jackwipe boyfriend or mom allowed them to watch them handle and use the gun. They probably even allowed them to handle the gun in their presence. And they probably laughed about it...

Oh hey look, an M rated game a 5-year old is playing? Gee... I couldn't imagine why we have ESRB rating.. no, not one bit.

If you think black ops has anything to do with this you are silly.

The adult is responsible 100%. Why is a 5yr old playing black ops? I have guns in my house with childern. The ammo is one safe. The guns are broke down so they arent able to be fired and store in a sepetate case. Smh. Be responsible.

Any person who let's a toddler play black ops shouldn't own a gun OR have a kid. You really expect people like that to make sure a gun is stored safely or teach gun safety. So f'ing stupid.

No we should blame the adults for letting a toddler play black ops!! Wtf people.

If only the 3 year old had been armed, she could have defended herself from the armed 5 year old.

the adult period...for the gun and letting a 5 yr old play violent games...karma's a bitch

For everyone saying the 5 year old shouldn't play games; the 5 year old didn't play the game, the 9 year old did who prepared the gun to fire. Please read carefully before commenting. And for everyone saying the game only has a reload button: when you press the reload button what happens? THE GAME SHOWS A HAND COME UP AND MANIPULATE THE SLIDE TO LOAD A BULLET INTO THE CHAMBER. That is how a kid can learn from the game. I agree that the parents are to blame, but kids are smart. They see things we don't even realize, hence many of you not realizing that the kid saw the hand rack a round into the chamber.

I sure as hell wouldn't know how to handle a weapon from playing Black Ops

Why was the gun unsecured? The gun owner is at fault!

Majestic12

Parents fault. These children were not educated about firearms and were definitely never taught to respect them. If you never teach your child to look both ways before they cross the street.....Accidents happen. #Morons #StopHavingKids

Let's be clear about what the real issue is here...The parents are idiots for leaving the gun out.

The games fault?! Ha. What happened to being a responsible parent... Oh, wait. I forgot we live in America where parents forget kids in cars in 100 degree weather too! SMH

The gun didn't kill the kid, the bullet and the other kid did.

People like this can legally own a gun? There seems to be a lot of em out there that shouldn't own one legally but still do. But that's not a problem though.

I played CofD a few times, and never saw an instructional how to. Like another commenter, just hit  ' reload '.

its not the video games fault parent cant say no to purchasing a game not intended for children or the parents that don't tell their kids to play a certain game

Any "crime drama" television show will teach a kid how to load, charge, and activate a firearm. Kids are desensitized to violence every day, and the thirst for blood, violent video games and senseless shootings are on the rise because of it. We can blame anything we want, but in a culture where love making and topless women are censored more than killing a man, we should expect a country full of psychopaths, not wonder where they came from. .

So a parent bought the violent game, let the kids play it, and then left them unattended with a gun. Clearly it's the game's fault...

I learned how to eat shrooms from Mario. I learned Karate from Tekken. I learned that violence and war started way before video games were created. I learned that parents don't like to take responsibility, from real life. A controller and a gun don't exactly work the same way.

not to mention he's 5 and black ops is a Mature rated game, the recommended age is 17.

He could of did a lot more damage if it weren't for the game. Bad game for leaving the gun accessible to kids.. bad... bad.... game

Paddy McGee

I played Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo. Did I shoot people with the guns that I had access to? Fuck no. And, they were locked n loaded shotguns & rifles in almost plain sight. When smaller kids were around, the guns were put away. Fuck this bullshit. I blame the parents.

It's a double fail by parents who let their child play a game of war AND leaving a gun out

Zack Judish

Or the parents that let a fucking 5 year old play that shit anyway.

1. That child was to young to play that video game. 2. Gun should not have been available to child. 3. Children should have been watched and maintained.

The crime isn't the gun, the crime is the parents who didn't lock up their weapon.  I grew up with guns in the house and they were always locked up.  At 10, my father took me to a shooting range and taught me gun safety before he taught me anything else.  The parents of this poor child need to be charged with a crime.

For every legal activity are asshats that neglect their responsibility.  The crime isn't the activity; but rather, the irresponsibility that leads to crime.

So playing Black Ops teaches you how to use an assault rifle...I was looking at every website on weapons and I still cannot find the reload button on any of them. That is the only thing you can do, reload or fire. Anyone who believes this wants to believe it to begin with.. Playing Black Ops teaches you how to ready a gun about as much as Madden teaches you to run fast, or Giutar Hero teaches you to play like Eddie Van Halen.

Louis Cruz Jr.

crime not up but Republicans with the NRA in their pockets sell fear so more and more uneducated stupid people buying guns. This is just the beginning.

Yes - and it's also wrong for a 5 year old to be playing COD...

Christy Young

No it's not fair to blame a fucking video game that's rated mature when the idiot parents let them play it and left a gun out for the kid to grab.

Michelle Kirby
Michelle Kirby

I think this is very unfortunate. But the blame does not lie on the kids or video games. It's bad parenting and bad supervision. Who let's their kids play a game that is rated for 18+? A bad parent. And for the boyfriend to flee the scene? Wow. He shouldn't have a gun in the first place, he's most likely a felon.

Amanda Goffena
Amanda Goffena

Well who the hell let's their toddler play black ops and then leaves a gun laying around? Both equally stupid decisions. You can't blame the video game, both things are the parents fault.
