Another year, another Warren Miller flick: Dynasty at Paramount this week

Old man Miller doesn't have much to do with the films that bear his name these days, but his dynasty lives on all the same: Denver screenings of the annual ski porn from Warren Miller Films are as reliable as the changing of the seasons.

Warren Miller celebrated his 85th birthday last month, and this month Warren Miller Entertainment is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first screenings of his film Deep And Light. Miller's company has made one feature-length ski film a year ever since, in addition to the hundreds of other films Miller worked on in his long career.

Denver's Paramount Theater is running the new film Dynasty this week, November 11-15. This one is directed by Max Bervy and has Johnny Mosley filling in for Miller's signature narration. Miller made his first film while living in a trailer in the Sun Valley parking lot; this one globetrots its way to China, Alaska, Norway, British Columbia, and, yes, Colorado.

Miller has all but disowned the current incarnation of the franchise and is said to be busy working on a memoir, What Are You Doing With the Rest of Your Life? Still, like pretty much every ski film made in the last 60 years, Dynasty clearly bears Miller's imprint, and there's something to be said for the long Denver tradition of starting ski season off with the annual Warren Miller Entertainment dose alongside 1,870 of your new best ski bum buddies.
