This Weekend In Stoke: More local adventure than you can shake a snowboard at

After getting dumped on all week (nearly three feet, as of this writing) Vail is opening today with 1,150 acres and nine lifts. Eldora opens today, too. Winter Park opened on Wednesday and will open Mary Jane tomorrow. And Keystone, which opened on November 5, is opening a bunch of new terrain to celebrate its 40th anniversary this weekend: Dig deep into your retro gear collection and make a spectacle of yourself in the fresh pow. You can also make fresh tracks at Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, or Wolf Creek. Rather stay in town? We've got you covered there, too.

If you're in a more homebody mood, you could forget all of the above, skip the ski traffic, and head to 1200 Lincoln Street on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the 2nd annual Backyard Bang Rail Jam, presented by Salomon Snowboards, The Art Institute of Colorado, Snowboy, Bonfire Snowboarding Company, Christy Sports, Scion, SOS Outreach, Snowboard Colorado, InkMonstr and -- ahem -- Westword.

The Adventure Film Festival opened last night at the Boulder Theater and continues through the weekend with events at REI Boulder, Neptune Mountaineering, and Patagonia. Start at the filmmakers workshop today at 2 p.m. at REI Boulder: The next big-screen adventure could be your own.

The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls' 5280 Fight Club A-team has the bragging rights this year over the Denver Roller Dolls' Mile High Club after winning the Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships earlier this month in Chicago (the Mile High Club finished 5th at Western Regionals and missed the cut for the championships). But B-team bragging rights are still very much up for grabs: The RMRG Contenders battle the DRD Bruising Altitude on Saturday at the Bladium, 2400 Central Park Boulevard, Stapleton ($15 at the door, kids 12 and under are free).
