If you're anything like us, all you need to know about beer is that it's good for filling the void of existential desperation and it makes driving a car way funner. But if you're one of these hoity-toity "liberals," you probably also want to know a bunch of worthless facts about that sweet nectar of numbness -- things like "where does it come from?" and "why does it taste so delicious?" And if that's the kind of thing that blows your hair back, Nancy, then you'll want to be at Boulder Museum of Natural History's lecture "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Beer." Worst case scenario: It's free, and if you play your cards right, you can probably brush your teeth in the restroom.

The event draws on the considerable brew knowledge of its three noted speakers: First up is Maureen Ogle, beer historian and author of a whole book about beer, Ambitious Brew: The Story of American Beer. She'll be discussing basically that, with a special emphasis on the role of Colorado in developing the fine malt liquors and other beer-related products of our great nation.

Next up is Dr. Darwin Davidson, a guy who knows such a ridiculous amount of information about hops that he's on something called the Hop Research Council. He'll be talking about -- wait for it -- hops. Finally, there's Charlie Papazian, president of the Brewers Association, who will be talking about different methods and techniques of beer-brewing on a large and small scale. If you pay really close attention, maybe you can make the beer you've been brewing in your basement to save money stop tasting like shoes and rubbing alcohol.

The lecture starts a-brewing at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at the Glenn Miller Ballroom in the UMC at the University of Colorado Boulder (see a map below) and won't cost you a penny. For more information, call 303-492-6892.
