Today In Stoke: Skylar Holgate throws some pow on the cover of Snowboard Colorado

Nobody's reppin' the local scene as hard as the new Snowboard Colorado magazine, and the third issue hit core snowboard shops this week. To pick up your free copy, look for the brand-new magazine racks made from Colorado beetle-kill wood. That's Skylar Holgate on the cover carving a big turn on a lunar-looking landscape at Silverton Mountain, and the magazine is hell-bent on highlighting all things local, serving up evidence that snowboarding in Colorado is on its way to becoming an entirely self-sustaining economy: We've got some of the best board companies, the best riders, the best filmmakers and photographers, the best shops and -- of course -- the best mountains, and now we've got one of the best magazines to go with it all.

Inside this issue you'll find a quickie interview with Think Thank filmmaker and Dinosaurs Will Die co-founder Sean Genovese, a sneak peek at the new Frisco Terrain Park, a Backcountry Ops feature with Chat Otterstrom on Red Mountain, a profile of Silverthorne-based Unity Snowboards and a behind-the-scenes look at the Never Summer factory, spotlights on Aspen's Radio Boardshop and Summit County-based photographer Dave Lehl, plus interviews with Colorado locals Erich Dummer, Isabelle Lalive, and Jacob Neville.

For more insider's perspective on skiing and riding in Colorado, don't miss The Edge, our annual winter activity guide featuring 25 Colorado ski areas: Snowboard Colorado editor-in-chief Adam Schmidt offers Wolf Creek as his all-time favorite square-state mountain, the magazine's creative director Pat Milbery scoops on Winter Park, and pro rider JJ Thomas -- featured in a 2-page photo spread in the November issue -- gives Westword the what's what on Breckenridge and the new 22-foot superpipe the resort is building just in time for him to defend his Dew Cup title when the Winter Dew Tour kicks off on his home turf next month.
