Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast opens pop-up shop at Mod-Livin'

Since Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast closed its Belmar retail doors last fall, store owners Andrew Novick and his wife Janene have been selling their collected Japanese kitsch online. Now, in a partnership with Mod Livin', the couple has brought Gimme Gimme's stock back to the tangible world, setting up shop within the East Colfax retro furnishings store.

"We had a bunch of stuff that we brought back from Thailand that we didn't get to display in the store," Novick says of some of the "new" items that will be for sale through December. "It was kind of like Christmas, because we found a bunch of messenger bags and toys that had been buried."

The upstairs space at Mod Livin' is also quite a bit larger than the original store, allowing for plenty of room to display Gimme Gimme's selection of knit Luchador masks, Hello Kitty merchandise, anime DVDs and the like. Throughout the month, the store will be hosting a handful of events -- tomorrow from noon to 5 p.m., Gimme Gimme partners with the Colorado Gothic Lolita Society for a cookie exchange, where friends and fans of Harajuku street fashion are encouraged to dress up, bring a dozen cookies and take a dozen.
