Hate the mall? Like booze? The Fabric Lab and Beauty Bar have a solution

​In the soul-sucking spirit of this pointedly consumer holiday season, The Fabric Lab and Beauty Bar have come up with a better way to shop without bringing the mall into the equation. Starting tonight, the local fashion facilitators take over the bar from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the Shopping After Dark Holiday Market -- a bazaar of local clothing designers, jewelry makers, artists and the like.

"It's geared toward the nine-to-five crowd who can't shop during the work day, but are deathly afraid of malls," jokes participating designer Baily Rose of Maison de Rose. Rose emphasizes that the market, which runs every Thursday evening in December at Beauty Bar, aims to connect with people looking for unique, handmade items.

Rose will be selling her reconstructed couture -- including recycled Super 8 film earrings, one-of-a-kind bicycle innertube vests and soft hoodie scarves -- as well as sharing prototypes of pieces that can be custom-made by request. Arcatus Jewelry, Studio Yoshida and over a dozen other boutiques and crafters will be selling handmade gifts starting at under $20.

Beauty Bar's $10 mani/pedi happy hour will also be in full effect for the weekly event, along with tasty baked goods by local pastry shop Sweet Remedy. For more information and a full list of participating designers, visit The Fabric Lab's blog.
