Even if you miss out on a Mondo t-shirt for amfAR, there are still ways to observe World AIDS Day locally. Here's how to help let the world know that HIV/AIDS isn't over, because yeah, it's not:

The Boulder County AIDS Project is coordinating an entire day of events in the republic to our northwest, where church bells even rang out downtown at noon today. First of all, BCAP will be raising public awareness of the global epidemic in front of the Boulder County Courthouse on the Pearl Street Mall all day until 5 p.m. Art + Soul Gallery, also on the mall at 1615 Pearl Street, is also hosting a "Day Without Art" open house and AIDS memorial until 6 p.m.

And tonight at 7 p.m., the Denver Gay Men's Chorus will sing out at a World AIDS Day Concert at First United Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce Street. Tickets are $15 at the door; call 303-444-6121 or visit BCAP's website for details.

In Denver, Rocky Mountain CARES, an organization that provides specialty pharmacy services to those affected by HIV/AIDS, hosts the i care! World AIDS Day Gala from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at MCA Denver, 1485 Delgany Street, with hors d'oeuvres and guest speakers.

But the real star of the show will be "We Will Change," a framed 15" by 22" watercolor by local artist Jack Balas, courtesy of Balas, Wes Hempel and the Robischon Gallery, which will be auctioned off live during the evening. Tickets are $100 and include museum admission; RSVP at events@rockymountaincares.org or call 720-412-6221.

And in the near future, at 7 p.m. on December 5, the second annual Red Ball: An Evening of Frost and Fire will make an AIDS statement and benefit the Colorado AIDS project in high style at the Exdo Event Center, 1399 35th Street. Ten local designers and ten salons are collaborating on the glitzy cocktail gala; an after-party with DJ follows the hot and cold runway show. Tickets range from $30 to $75; hit the Red Ball website for all the info.
