Regardless of what it did for Mexico, the Mexican revolution of the early 20th century spawned some of the most badass figures in history: You might remember Pancho Villa, maybe the most famous bandit/revolutionary ever, or Emiliano Zapata, the guy who said "it is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees." And, damn, that's badass.

Where there is iconic pop culture, awesome movies follow. That's the topic of the XicanIndie FilmFest's current film series, happening at Su Teatro tonight.

The festival, an independent celebration of Chicano Filmmaking, won't happen until April in its entirety, but in the meantime, the organization is partnering up to show a weekly series of films dedicated to la revolución. Tonights offering, Ora sí, Tenemos que Ganar, examines the peasant oppression that led up to the revolution from the perspective of a group of miners who lead a revolt against the American owner of the mine. It's a pretty obscure film (you won't even find a trailer for it on these vast internets, let along the full version), but its release date of 1978 guarantees a lot of badass Mexploitation charm -- and if that's not enough to get you, then consider this: It'll cost you just $5.

The screening starts at 6:30 p.m. at Su Teatro. Viva La Revolución!
