Tonight: Too Sexy for the Stock Show is ... well, what the title suggests

If you've ever been to a Burlycute show, then you pretty much know what to expect when these burlesque beauties put together a production: Sheer insanity. Also, hot girls taking off their clothes amidst the sheer insanity. And madame/emcee Cora Vette (aka Reyna Von Vett) is the glue that keeps it all together.

This time around, the theme is Too Sexy for the Stock Show. "The whole town in January goes Western a little bit, so we thought, why fight it?" Vette notes. "This show is the longest one we've ever done -- they keep getting bigger, which is exciting. It's definitely bigger than last year by about four or five numbers."

If you caught last year's version, you might remember "The Ballad of Davy Crocket" and Vivienne VaVoom's "Fever" number (which she sang herself!) -- both of those will be making re-appearances in this year's show; you'll also see a line-dance finale and a gorgeous rendition of "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy." And lots, lots more.

"We've got our usual suspects, Vivienne VaVoom and Anabella Lafontaine and Frangelica Love and La Petite Mort, and a new girl Lily D'Lovely.," Vette says. "Everything's got a Western theme, but it's not all country music. We're not taking ourselves too seriously, as usual. This show is more for people who have had enough Stock Show stuff, you know, something different. I anticipate this show is more for the locals than the Stock Show crowd -- this is our burlesque-y interpretation of Wild West strippers."

That is wild!

So what can we expect from the powerhouse singer that is Cora Vette herself?

"I believe I will be singing a reworked version of 'Down in Mississippi,' except I will be singing 'Down at Bender's Tavern and up to no good.' I'll be doing a Gretchen Wilson song called 'All Jacked Up' about getting drunk and passing out at a bar and losing teeth. It's basically what happens when you get to a bar at happy hour and then you close it down. I'll be doing 'Fancy' again, because that's one of my favorite prostitution songs that kick ass. There's one that I'm going to do, but I don't know how it'll go over, but I like to put a 'real' moment in the show. There's a song called 'Anyway,' it's actually a Martina McBride song. It's just a really lovely song about not giving up, and life sucks, but do it anyway. It's a little bit of a big hug. I always wonder if that'll go over well or not, but it's a nice little real moment where I get to sing instead of just being completely insane and ridiculous.

"And then ,of course, we've got our redneck strip-tease version of 'Cotton-Eyed Joe' to bring it down. There will be a chicken. It will be interactive. So really, really traditional stuff. There's nothing funny going on there. I expect a whole pile of strange awesomeness."

Too Sexy for the Stock Show runs tonight and next Thursday (January 20) at Bender's Tavern. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door -- and after the show, around 10 p.m., rockabilly band Cora Vette and the Vinyl Tops will be playing a free after-party. So if your wallet is still suffering from a little too much holiday cheer, you can still enjoy Vette's singing if you show up a little bit later. Visit www.benderstavern.com for information.
