| Mayor Vidal |
Since taking office last month, there has been some talk about Mayor Guillermo Vidal officially running for the position when his term ends in July. Though this is apparently hearsay and Vidal has no immediate plans to run, last night's inaugural Cableland Cultural Jam had us wishing he was. Hardly a stiff suit, Mayor Vidal and his wife, Gabriela Cornejo Vidal, hosted a night of salsa dancing, live painting and music at the gaudy Cableland mansion, dancing right along with students from West and Montbello high schools.
The night's purpose was to engage students with active members of Denver's creative community through various performances. Several dance performances -- including by salsa dancer Xitlali, as well as Cleo Parker Robinson and members of her dance company -- highlighted the evening, which also included conversations with Andy Guerrero and Kenny O of Flobots and previous Westword MasterMind winner Jolt.
