Month of Photography continues with Down the Rabbit Hole at Hinterland

"My Hair Your Hair," Sarah Buckius

Sabin Aell of Hinterland took up the challenge of Denver's Month of Photography by putting out an international call for entries for work that is "wild, uncontrolled, different, luminous, beautiful, sparkling, in the flow." It's a tall order, but that's exactly what came up out of the ground for jurors Petra Sertic of BMoCA, MOP founder Mark Sink and Richard Peterson: all of the above -- singular images that stay in the mind for a while and take the viewer somewhere inscrutably different.

"Mystify," Ellen Jantzen.

The ensuing show, Down the Rabbit Hole, which features experimental, process-based and purely fantastical work by more than twenty photographers, many of them local, opens with a reception tonight from 6 to 10 p.m., as a final bookend to a fine season for MOP. Here's a sneak peek:

"Echos" Jean Albus.

"Suspended," Rebekah Rocha.

"Baptism for the Abandoned Child," Susan Goldstein.

Mark DeRespinis

"Emerging,"Janelle Pietrzak.

Down the Rabbit Hole continues at Hinterland, 3254 Walnut Street in RiNo, through April 21, with additional receptions on First Friday, April 1, and on closing night; call 720-309-1764.

Yes, you left out Richard Peterson, the second juror plain for all to see at http://www.hinterlandartspace.... . The jury's process of selection was not easy, a story in itself of conflict, compromise, and ultimately, an intense collaboration resulting in the beauty that we are fortunate to enjoy.

Don't feel bad Richard - all of us in the show appreciate your contribution. I once co-curated a show and didn't get mentioned.
