This Weekend in Stoke: Spring Break science, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding edition
Only an evening? Tonight at 6:30 p.m. REI Denver presents An Evening With Earthwatch, your chance to learn about upcoming volunteer expeditions around the world where you'll combine exotic adventure, scientific research and travel on the cheap. By this time next year you could be doing something meaningful with your Spring Break. In the meantime, here's some other stuff to do this weekend:
Must-have Spring fashion! Classes may be out for Spring Break this week, but new-school is in session up at Loveland for the annual Tall Tees and Tacos contest, where $20 gets you into the terrain park contest and -- more importantly -- into a ridiculously over-sized t-shirt.
Terrain park twerps! Speaking of new-schoolers, Winter Park hosts the Vans King of the Grommets competition in the Re-Railer Terrain park on Saturday, with divisions for the 12-and-under set and amateurs ages 13+. Registration is $25, with reduced-price competitor tickets available.
Get bowled over! Teams of two will get decked out with GPS gear for the 4th annual Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls at Aspen Highlands on Sunday, then race through every run on a course marked out by local legend Chris Davenport, covering as much as 60,000 vertical feet in a couple of hours. Registration is $75 per team of two and includes $90 worth of Helly Hansen base layer clothing, plus free food and drink at the after-party.
