Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family is this week's most ridiculous trailer

It's a pretty sad statement about race in America that every black man in Hollywood except Will Smith and Chris Rock is still somehow required to have a fat, sassy, female alter-ego to periodically provide the machine with a few cheap yuks about -- looka here, kids! -- how black women are, fat, sassy and mannish. To that depressing canon, go ahead and add Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family, a movie whose need to cram not one but two possessives into its title is less baffling in syntax than in the fact that an attachment to this steaming piece of crap could be desirable to anyone at all.

If this trailer deserves any credit -- and it most certainly does not -- it's that at least it looks slightly less nauseating than Big Momma's: Like Father, Like Son, another umpteenth addition to a shameful series with an awkwardly placed apostrophe in its title -- so that's mildly uplifting, but then you realize Big Momma's came out, like, a month ago, and it depresses you even more because America's thirst for odious racial humiliation is apparently not quenched by one of these turds per year. Bring it on, Hollywood! Chris Tucker, where is your fat suit?

Speaking of Chris Tucker, no, you're right: You did just witness Madea plagiarizing word-for-word a Chris Tucker line from Rush Hour -- which, plagiarizing Chris Tucker? Come on. If you're going to rip something off, at least rip off something good. Then again, if you're going to cobble together a movie out of stereotypes about black people, you might as well throw a few about Asians in there, too.

Yep, pretty much all this movie needs to be the most distasteful portrait of African American life imaginable would be a cameo from Maury Povich -- oh, wait, that's in there, too. Hey, but did you see how she really likes ham? Haha, because you know how black women can't get enough ham.

I think this movie sends the wrong messages and the way he display black women is so insulting.  I am starting to believe he has run out of good story lines.  maybe he needs to take a break.  That whole buy diapers and clothes and hand them over to the mother is so wrong.  i have an ex-husband who doesn't do anything for his child and thousands of dollars come out of my pocket every month to take care of our child.  So if he gave me a few dollars and brought myself a pair of underwear, it doesn't even start to compensate me for all the money that comes out of my pocket.  I will never watch another Perry movie again.  I just don't like him anymore.  He has lost focus!!!!

Madea's Big Happy Family is inane, asinine, silly, insulting to humans everywhere---not just Blacks, and possibly worst of all: NOT FUNNY. When I was in the theater, I heard maybe one laugh throughout this entire 90-minute freak show. It lived up to my expectation that it would be another typical Tyler Perry formula. What I hadn't expected was for it to be so much worse than usual. Didn't even think that was possible.

This movie had a nonstop track of people saying things and people doing that no adult with even half a brain would say or do. A lot of physical action being passed off as "comedy," and hyper, exaggerated behavior coming out of annoying characters. It was the most nerve-wracking movie I've ever seen. Though the ending was strange, I was so relieved to have it end so I could get out of there---hoping no one I know would spot me there.

I have a sense of humor; that's how I know this movie simply was not funny. Had it been funny, I'd have laughed.

Why do u ppl always make it a race issue. Please just enjoy the movie, because that's what I am getting enjoyment out of it. It's your opinion if u like it or not. But my family & I love everything Mr. Tyler Perry does!!!

I don't care what color you are. This movie and all of them are damn funny if a little too much melodrama....we laughed hard and forgot all about racism and other stupid stuff like that.

Madea's character kind of slipped into Mr Perry's spirit. Did Tyer not tell Spike Lee to 'Go straight to hell'? And then told the media to print it. Tyler gets a grade D- grade from me one and off screen. If I had to pick a production that I liked even a little bit, it wouild have been MEET THE BROWNS in which he did not perform.

I totally agree. Tyler's movies lack depth and vision. He is rarely funny and his acting is even worse.

You obviously have no sense of humor.... and not much knowledge either.. Before you believe you know something and actually write and article and check the facts... asnd so you know Big Momma is a term of endearment... Maybe you should find some black friends and let them give you a clue. Go Tyler !!! you must be doing something right!
