Tomorrow: Muse's Market gets the show -- and a tour bus that runs on vegetable oil -- on the road

Think of the Muse's Market as Al Gore with music and art, and you might begin to get the idea of what it's all about: Billed as "a modern-day Chautauqua" or a "farmers' market for music and ideas," the Denver-based tour comprises an earnest crew of musicians, artists, a photojournalist, a slam poet and a modern-day environmentalist who deliver a message about sustainability and the future in a two-hour performance. And, as if to hammer in the nail in just a bit more securely, the group will travel to eleven tour destinations around the West in a vintage 1970s-era tour bus outfitted to run on biofuels. They'll kick off that tour at the Eron Johnson Antiques Warehouse, 389 S. Lipan Street, tomorrow at 7 p.m.

After a well-received test run last weekend at the Salida SteamPlant, the group is ready to roll, says musical muse Gabrielle Louise, but when they throw down here in Denver, it'll be in a far less conventional venue: the Eron Johnson Antiques Warehouse at 389 South Lipan Street. "It's a 9,000 square foot warehouse filled with antiques, where they've hollowed out a stage," she notes. And that's in keeping, Louise adds, with the old-timey traveling-troupe Chautauqua theme, as is the tour bus, which is not only carbon-neutral but downright homey inside, with hardwood floors and a cozy parlor ambiance. And in general, they've chosen performance venues along the way that "operate as intimate listening atmospheres." They know they'll mostly be preaching to the choir at this point, in terms of people already looking for sustainable alternatives, but see it as a both a celebratory experience and a chance to grapple with eco-issues in a different light. Following is a taste of what you'll see and hear if you go:

Tickets to Muse's Market -- which features Louise, Panama Soweto, Jimmy Danko, Laurie Maves and speaker Chris Garre -- are $15 and available in advance, along with additional information, at the website.
