A-Basin announces Summer ski season dates through at least June 19
How about this weather we've been having? Local skiers and snowboarders fantasizing about 4th of July fireworks at Arapahoe Basin just might see their dreams come true this season: On Friday the ski area announced it will remain open seven days a week through June 5 as planned and then reopen for three-day weekends on June 10-12 and June 17-19. Chief Operating Officer Alan Henceroth stopped just short of committing to the 4th of July celebration but says he's keeping all possibilities open.

"The snowpack right now is 196 percent of normal," Henceroth said in a video statement released Friday. "We have a ton of snow... We want to stay open until the 4th of July, we're just not gonna commit to that just yet. Let's go to mid-June, see how we're doing."

According to A-Basin spokeswoman Leigh Hierholzer, the ski area has reported over 420" of snow this season, including more than 15" in the last week. More than 70 percent of the resort's terrain was still open as of yesterday, and new snow is still coming down. Powder days in May? Believe it.
