Twitter Tuesday: Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice!

It's SHOWTIME!

​This edition of Twitter Tuesday is going to be a little different than the previous format -- mostly because the Beetle Juice twitter isn't really "real," so to speak. It's a Twitter Bot, and we came across it recently when looking to see if Beetle Juice might, in fact, have a twitter. (All sorts of dead people have them, like Mary Wollstonecraft, for instance, so why wouldn't Michael Keaton's best character ever have one?)

​The difference between a Twitter and a Twitter Bot is just that a person has designed the Twitter account to respond to cues posted in other people's tweets. So for Beetle Juice, if one is to tweet "Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice," he will respond with "IT'S SHOWTIME!" ​Sometimes, Beetle Juice responds with other quotes from the movie. There is something about reading these lines again that reminds us why we loved Beetle Juice in the first place -- Keaton's character was really just a creepy dad trying to get into Lydia Deetz's pants, and for some reason that is really funny. We wonder how much of the script he ad-libbed in this movie, because Keaton seems kind of like a creepy-dad type in real life, too.

​Why didn't this phrase catch on? Probably because it refers to something that happened over a decade ago. Wait, has it been a decade since the Y2K hysteria? Where did the '90s go? Beetle Juice, we really miss you. Those were much simpler times.
