By every conceivable definition, Trey Parker and Matt Stone's The Book of Mormon has been am unqualified success; in fact, considering the sold-out houses, the glowing reviews and the preposterous amount of Tony Award nominations the musical has garnered, it might even be the most successful thing the duo has ever done -- and for the guys that created South Park, one of the most beloved animated social satires of all time, that's saying a lot. So it's good to know that, when the time comes, the two Denver kids who made it happen will be tipping their hat to the hometown; The Book of Mormon will launch its national tour here.

"We can't tell you how much it means to us to open the tour in the state in which we grew up. It's a homecoming," Trey Parker said via a press release yesterday. "We can't wait to play the show across America and the fact that we're getting the chance to start where we grew up is an incredible bonus and very humbling."

Indeed, sir, we share that sentiment.

The musical, which follows the sweet but incompetent exploits of two Mormon missionaries in AIDS-ravaged Uganda (hilarity ensues) is slated to open at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in December 2012, making Denver the first place anywhere off Broadway folks can see it. No word yet on when it makes the sojourn to Salt Lake City -- the complete tour schedule won't be released for a couple of weeks.
