The Denver County Fair welcomes legendary promoter Barry Fey into the fold

The Denver County Fair this summer is already going to be a historical occasion -- it is, after all, the first county fair ever for Denver -- but it just got even more historic: Today, event impresario Dana Cain announced that the fair had acquired the services of Barry Fey, the near-mythical Denver concert promoter who first brought Led Zeppelin to the U.S. and U2 to Red Rocks, among other feats of promotional strength. He hasn't promoted a concert since his retirement in 1997, when Bill Clinton sent him a videotaped message of personal thanks for a great career. Yeah, you heard that right.

"This guy is like a Denver legend," says Cain, a fairly legendary event promoter in her own right. "We're unbelievably excited to have him."

The big news, though, will be the band that Fey brings to headline the fair in July -- the details aren't solidified yet, and Cain can't say who it might be, but she's pretty confident it's going to be big -- like, six digits big. "I didn't get much sleep last night, thinking about a sum of money like that," she confesses, "but I ran the numbers, and it was like, yeah, okay, we could make that happen."

The first Denver County Fair takes place July 28 -31 at the National Western Complex. In the meantime, stay tuned -- from the looks of things, it's going to be even greater than expected.
