A couple weeks ago, ZetaKaye House released This Ain't No Cowtown, a compilation of Colorado bands, and this week we've got a collection in a similar vein with some of Denver's best comedians and poets. If you're the type of person who's scared to go to comedy shows or poetry readings because you think you'll get feces tossed at you and made fun of, now's your chance to see what a sliver of Denver is up to.

The compilation is about as NSFW as you can get -- so if you're the type to be offended by jokes about anal sex, the antichrist, vagina waxing or eldercide you might want to steer clear. That said, if those words alone make you chuckle, you'll be in for a treat as comedians Ben Roy, Nathan Lund, Adam Cayton-Holland and others have a penchant for talking about everything except puppy dogs and rainbows.

On the poetry end, you'll only get Charly "city mouse" Fasano, but considering he's one of few poets around town willing to commit his words to tape, that makes sense. Still, it'd have been nice to see more people willing to contribute their haiku's to the cause -- perhaps in the second volume we'll see more.

But that's not to say this isn't a great first effort. We're certainly looking forward to a bit more in the second one, but as a proof of concept that a poetry and comedy compilation can actually work, This Ain't No Cowtown, Vol 1 hits the mark. You can download or stream it below, and if you're feeling especially frisky, you can donate through Bandcamp as well.

They'll be celebrating the release of the comp in style, with a month-long residency at Lost Lake that combines comedians and bands onto one stage. If you have some poetry or songs lying around doing nothing, consider submitting them to the second volume by emailing ZetaKaye your submission.
