This weekend: Teller Elementary says, "Hey, let's put on a show!"
Congress Park's Teller Elementary School already marches to a different drum when it comes to fundraising: Instead of hosting yet another carnival or bake sale, Teller has Tellerpalooza, for instance: an annual family-friendly night of live music at the Mercury Cafe. And now, local fashion and design maven Tran Wills, in direct reaction to disheartening public school budget cuts, is introducing Fashion Night Out for Teller, a fashion show extravaganza to benefit school programs and entertain the community.

For Tran, it's a no-brainer: "My girls go there," she explains. "Plus, the school is always doing fun things to raise money, like Tellerpalooza, that separate them from other schools. I'm not really one of those PTA moms, so this is a way for me to do a little bit more for the school."
And a little planning power goes a long way: The event, taking place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Teller, 1150 Garfield Street, will culminate with a full-fledged runway show, featuring such top local designers as Kotomi Yoshida (who also has a daughter at Teller), James Silvrantz, Tricia Hoke and many others, but not before show-goers have perused the Teller Community DIY Market and dined on slices from Fat Sully's Slice Truck.
For fashionable kids, Rebelle salon and Proper Barber Shop will offer up-dos for girls and proper hairstyles for boys for five bucks, and Tootsies Nail Shoppe will be on hand to paint on some mini-manis; for the artsy, artist Matt Scobey is contributing a unique paper runway installation using huge cardboard boxes for a backdrop to the fun. Music will be provided by the Postman. "It's really geared toward the whole community and not just the school," Tran adds. "And I'm also hoping to show people from other schools that they can do fun stuff like this, too."

Fashion show tickets are $25 for VIP seating and $10 for standing room (or $30 for a family of four), and the vendor market is free; cupcakes from Lovely Confections will be served after the show. Go to the Teller website for advance tickets; 100 percent of the ticket proceeds will benefit the school.
